When lions approach, the meerkats at this wildlife park don't scatter. They run to Jumbo.
A photo spreading online captures the moment - Jumbo the elephant lifting tiny meerkats with his trunk while lions watch from a distance. Park staff say it's become a pattern. When danger comes close, the meerkats head straight for him, and he positions himself between them and the threat.
A giant standing guard for some of the smallest animals in the park. And they trust him completely.
Sad story of ethnicity in Kenyan politics
In 1962, Fredrick Omondi was among five chosen young Kenyan flight cadets dispatched to Israel’s Haifa Flying School. They went to learn and came back to defend our skies.
He did exactly that too well. By February 22, 1965, at the age of twenty, he stood before Jomo Kenyatta, sword in hand and crowned the most outstanding pilot of his class. He became the third man ever registered in the Kenya Air Force.
And then, a ceiling was placed over his head. While his course-mate Dedan Gichuru conveniently from the President’s own ethnic orbit rose with the smooth well-cleared runway, becoming Air Force Commander by thirty, Omondi stalled mid-air. By 1971, the decorated son of Nyakach was still a Captain, circling the same altitude, watching lesser men climb past him.
There was no need of explanation, After the fallout between Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Kenyatta in 1966, the state recalibrated opportunities based on surnames. For Luo officers like Omondi, the system preferred not to promote .So although it had trained him as a pilot, politics grounded him.
Frustration build and By 1971, there were whispers of meetings, and eventually a conspiracy that attracted professors, legislators, and soldiers alike. Kenya staged one of its most curious trials: twelve men accused of plotting to overthrow the government.
Names like Kitili Mwendwa and Joseph Ndolo floated through the narrative like ghosts, mentioned never summoned. They were just asked to resign and later escorted out of the earth through road accidents.
In court, the prosecution, led by James Karugu, offered a poorly educated former soldier, Joseph Daniel Owino as the mastermind. The magistrate, S.K. Sachdeva, appeared unconvinced wondered how a man of such modest standing commanded professors and senior officers? But behind the official script stood Omondi who had watched merit politely step aside for ethnicity. He pleaded guilty and ten years in prison followed.
.
Back home in in Koguta, Nyakach another young man was watching. Hezekiah Ochuka joined the Air Force in 1976, He had grown up hearing about Omondi, the village genius who had touched the sky. The poor youngman inherited the grievance,... Where Omondi had stalled at Captain, Ochuka barely moved at all. Nearly a decade into service, he remained a Senior Private. Ambition had an ethnic limit.
By August 1, 1982, Ochuka decided he would not wait politely . For roughly six chaotic hours, Senior Private Grade One Ochuka declared himself ruler of Kenya directly promoting himself through mutiny. Then, it collapsed. He fled to Tanzania. The State, far more efficient in punishment than in fairness, brought him back.
He was Tried, convicted, and caged, In 1986, at Lang’ata Barracks, Ochuka’s mother, Wilkista Oketch, and his sister Mary Adhiambo attended his court-martial it was painful.
A year later, at Kamiti Maximum Prison, his story ended. When the hanging was done the government returned his clothes neatly folded and Wilkista Oketch received them in silence

In India, a dr*nk man petted a tiger while the entire town hid indoors in fear 🐅😳
Panic spread quickly through a small town in India when reports of a tiger roaming the streets surfaced. Shops shut down, doors were locked, and people rushed indoors to protect themselves. The once-busy streets fell completely silent, filled with tension and fear as everyone waited for the danger to pass.
Amid the silence, one man walked through the empty road, reportedly returning home late at night. When he came face to face with the tiger, instead of running, he calmly approached it. In a moment that stunned many, he gently patted the tiger and even joked casually, leaving the animal momentarily still before it quietly moved away.
The incident quickly became a story people could hardly believe, spreading across communities and online platforms. It highlights a strange mix of fearlessness, luck, and unpredictability. While the moment may seem unreal, it leaves a lingering thought... how thin is the line between bravery and risk in such unexpected situations?

In my 20s living in Nakuru, I went to Pater Mark Kariuki’s Deliverance Church.
He’d call the sick to the front to receive God’s healing and then he’d ask them to give an offering for the healing
When his wife got sick, we were never told to pray for her healing…. he did not pray for her until she drops backwards
No. We were asked to contribute money to fly her to MD Anderson Medical Center in Houston Texas
When she died, Pastor Mark did not ask us to pray so that God can give him direction in his life, he picked one of the church women and made her his next wife
Rastafarian Brian Mwanza explains the religious use of the chalice outside Milimani Law Courts after petitioning to legalize cannabis in Kenya for prayer and sacramental purposes only.
I was shooting in Mama Ngina Waterfront, and this random kid kept following me. Not talking, not disturbing just walking behind me like my tiny silent bodyguard. 😂
After a while I turned and asked, ‘Unataka nini?’ He said, ‘Nataka kuona vile unashika hiyo camera juu nataka kuwa kama wewe.’
Bruh… I almost handed him the whole camera.
So I let him take one shot. ONE. Tell me why his photo came out very clean and well composed than most people do when i hand them the camera😳
Moral of the story: talent is hiding everywhere… sometimes even in size 3 slippers.
Who has a story like this? Let’s hear it.
