As a northerner, I’ll be blunt here.
There are not very many excellent jobs in Nigeria, especially, in the North. And the few ones that are in the public sector? They usually go to the "highly connected” people.
And if you are able to get a place in the few ones that are left, you’ll only be paid a "survival wage." It keeps you afloat, but it won’t build you a future. In fact, with bills and family, it can make you poorer.
If your goal is to move into the middle class, which is the most realistic goal for most of us from humble backgrounds, then your strategy cannot be:
1. Waiting only for public sector jobs.
2. Limiting yourself to just your city or state.
The harsh truth is that unemployment is higher in many northern cities than it is in the south. That means your chances of landing a good job here are slimmer.
As young people, we must be pragmatic in coming up with solutions. I think these 4 practical moves can help:
1. Look to the private sector - While you’re still hoping for government, go hard for private companies. They pay better. They train you faster. They expose you to bigger opportunities.
2. Be mobile - Don’t be fixated on staying in your state or town. Be open to Lagos, Abuja, PH, Kano, anywhere with opportunity. Build yourself there first. When you’ve made it, you can always come back home and give back.
3. Polish your skills - A degree alone won’t pay bills. What problem can you solve? Learn a skill. Tech, sales, logistics, content, trades. Make yourself valuable.
4. Start something small - Having a degree doesn’t mean you must have a 9-5. The goal is to have a source of livelihood. It can be a business, a side hustle, catering, farming, e-business. Start small. Grow it.
Just be out and work hard.
I hope we succeed.

Why is @MDCNOfficial charging newly inducted, foreign-trained medical doctors 415,000 naira for a provisional license?
How much do you pay your house officers per month

Heavily armed bandits handed over the body of General Rabe yesterday morning in Katsina and left for neighboring forest 🌳 of Matazu , unchallenged !
What a country ???
Dear Northern Governors,
Face your damn responsibilities. The North is shattered & you are not just there to collect FAAC, distribute it; change your cars, build your mansions, & wait for the next allocations.
If you cannot, and actually it is clear that you cannot, secure your people, look for help from outside the country. Stop treating these terrorists like your siblings even if you share the same tribe and ethnicity with them. They're marauding animals & should be treated as such. Invite countries that are friends and allies, go all out to annihilate these animals. Operate as though we don't have a central govt, bcos it is obvious that what we have at the center is just as useless. Seek for solutions yourselves. It is your people that are being killed. So it is your problem. Look for solutions yourselves.
Prayers alone won't solve our problems. But a sincere action followed by sincere prayers would.
To the youth, mobilise against bad leadership. Create awareness among the people. Boot out bad government, from the federal to states. We are the ones whose future is being destroyed by these incompetent leaders. Let us rise to our responsibilities.
Dear Nigerian Doctors, if you're sick and you go for a sick leave and you're denied it, kindly ask the person to write down and sign that he/she denied you sick leave.
You're welcome 🙂🙂🙂
Israel is bombarding, literally bombarding, two Middle East capitals, Beirut and Tehran, killing 100s of civilians, and yet the US and UK media continue to portray Iran as the threat to the region.
Israel has nukes, but Iran is the nuclear threat.
We live in Orwellian times.
This is a misappropriation of history. Because someone is wearing a suit and tie on the internet doesn't mean they know what they are saying.
1. That the Rashidun Caliphate was a theocracy does not dismiss the fact that it was a government. And as was the fashion of the time, most strong governments expanded their territories. The motive was mostly political though wth religious undertones as expected of a theocracy.
The Misapropriation: 👇
Before the 7th century, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Jerusalem were not Christian countries, they were provinces of the Christian Byzantine Empire ruled from Constantinople.
They were not independent Christian countries.
They were imperial provinces which means that politically they were part of a large empire, not separate Christian nations.
The Rashidun Caliphate conquered the Byzantines in the Battle of Yarmouk, followed by the conquest of Jerusalem and then Egypt in the span of 30 years which earned them those regions by right of conquest, again as was the fashion of the time.
2. “They forced people to convert to Islam”
This claim is outright false.
In the early Islamic empires, Christians and Jews were classified as “People of the Book.”
They were allowed to keep their religion.
They paid a special tax called "jizya" instead of military service.
Conversion to Islam happened gradually over hundreds of years, mainly because:
Muslims did not pay the jizya tax. It was economically comfortable to be a muslim in such a political terrain.
In fact, when Muslims conquered Jerusalem in 637, the caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab issued the Pact of Umar, which guaranteed protection for Christian churches and property.
Another factor was Social mobility in Muslim administration, and Cultural and linguistic change.
If conversion had been forced, these regions would have become Muslim immediately, which did not happen.
3. “Islam is the greatest colonial force in history”
This is false!
Islamic empires did indeed expand widely at their peak, but many empires did expand similarly. The Roman Empire, the Mongol Empire, the British Empire to mention a few.
The British Empire, for example, ruled more territory and people than any empire in history and both the Roman and British Empires can be said to be Christian empires and murdered a lot of people in their wake.
4. “Islam has killed more people than any institution”
False!
There is no evidence for this claim. No historian or dataset supports it.
Large death tolls in history include:
- World War II approximately 70–85 million deaths
- Mongol Conquests approximately 30–40 million deaths
- World War I 20 million deaths
These were not Islamic conflicts. Many wars in Islamic history were political and imperial, not purely religious.
The same is true for wars involving Christian empires, such as the Crusades and European colonial wars.
Why did the Middle East Became Muslims?
It's simple, political rule by Muslim empires, Arabic language spreading, economic incentives, intermarriage and culture, gradual conversion over centuries
It was not a single wave of forced conversions.
I won't let anyone revise history for religious vendetta. Thank you!
Once again, millions of Nigerians need to be locked up in literal gulags and forced to mix concrete, dig trenches, and harvest potatoes under armed supervision until they learn that they are NOT Americans.
You're not American. You're not a deputy American. You're not even a Westerner. You are a sorry-ass Black man from Darkest Africa who hasn't experienced 5 straight days of uninterrupted electricity in your life ever.
Americans can afford to "hate" Communism because they have the world's biggest ever empire at their disposal to funnel the entire world's wealth into their country and Communism in the Global South literally stops that from happening.
"Capitalism" is when Chevron and Texaco and ExxonMobil get to extract Nigeria's oil and make most of the money of it while paying your country a pittance so that your kids attend classes under trees and there is no direct way to travel between Lagos and Abuja.
"Communism" is when your country nationalises its oil so that you keep all its your revenue and use it to build roads and schools. An African "actively opposing" Communism is a turkey on a farm "actively opposing" what will stop the farmer from turning it into stew.
You people should learn to understand your place in the world so that you stop trying so hard to be Americans from your apartment with Ilupeju that is filled with generator smoke.
Same type of dummies that worshipped Charlie Kirk.
It always amazes me how muslims always end up right.
First it was how they clean up in the toilet with water, everyone is trying to implement it now.
Next is fasting religiously every year, now everyone preaches intermittent fasting and its benefits.
Next is how they don't eat pork, they call it unclean. And by fact it can affect the brain because of tapeworms.
When we were kids everything they used to do was strange and different from us, now because of education and the Internet we seem to be slowly implementing their way of life.
For the record: I fully support regime change. I suggest we start right here in the United States by overthrowing our Supreme Leader, Benjamin Netanyahu.
Once I see you are a Christian from Nigeria I automatically do not take your opinions on geopolitics seriously.
Because the picture painted in my head of you is a religious buffon with absolutely no common sense of any sort.
Thank you! 🤝
