🚨BREAKING: Eleven days after the Lindsay Clancy mistrial, Massachusetts wants a nurse in every new baby’s house.

Gov. Maura Healey: “Everybody in the state, when you have a baby, you’re going to have a home visit… an opportunity for a healthcare provider to make an assessment.”

She is asking lawmakers for $2 million to expand Welcome Family so a maternal-health nurse can visit in the first weeks after birth, check mom and baby, and screen for postpartum mental health. The program now reaches about 3,000 births. Massachusetts has about 68,000 a year. Officials say it would still be optional.
