Did you see this on the news? Probably not.
The government just quietly finalized a 100% sale of IMPCL to Skymap Pharmaceuticals for ₹121 crore.
Why is this a massive deal? Because IMPCL was literally the Ministry of AYUSH’s only highly profitable, debt-free medicine PSU with decades of unbroken profit.
They literally sold a running, successful government asset without any public discussion.
Why sell the one medicine company that actually works and supplies cheap medicines to public hospitals and the army?
Simple:
- Govt. gets quick cash to show on its balance sheet
- Private buyer gets a ready-made business with thousands of customers for cheap, and
- Normal people lose a major safety net for affordable healthcare.
