We are deeply saddened by the passing of His Excellency Festus Mogae, former President of the Republic of Botswana and a former member of the Mastercard Foundation Board of Directors.
As President from 1998 to 2008, he led one of Africa’s most courageous and consequential responses to the HIV/AIDS epidemic and oversaw a decade defined by sound economic stewardship and democratic stability. The values he brought to public life, integrity, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to the dignity of his people, were values he also brought to his eleven years on our Board.
Our deepest condolences to his family and to the people of Botswana.
