Alright, story time.

Back in the early 1990s, Valis here was probably the first time the West got to experience something of Japanese high fantasy as it relates to anime. Yes, it's a video game, but it's also representative of the fantasy storytelling 1980s Japan enjoyed when it came to anime and manga; starting with Leda and going from there.

Naturally this generated a great deal of interest in the American anime fandom, so the question was if there was ever an anime or OVA for Valis.

This was vehemently denied on rec.arts.anime (remember, there was no real web yet) and that was that. Most insisted it never existed, and some conjectured that maybe, somewhere in Steve Pearl's legendary massive collection of video tapes, evidence of this anime exists.

In terms of access to videotapes and other stuff, nobody in America had more ready access to a large archive of anime than him. I've never met the guy, but nearly every anime FAQ mentioned him and his ridiculously large collection. Hideaki Anno announced that Steve Pearl was the American Otaking. (Steve Pearl did not live past the 1990s IIRC. Terminal illness or something.)

However, if Steve had video of the fabled Valis anime, he never mentioned it. But the Western anime fan consensus was that the Valis anime simply did not exist.

Anyway it does exist, it's like 12 or 14 minutes (check youtube, the one I'm QRTing here is just the commercial sourced from that anime) and it was Anno's debut at directing an anime.

@CapcomUSA_ Will always be Sweet Home, but barring licensed titles that you don't really have rights to: any Mega Man game, but especially Classic and X series. I wish we had more Xtreme games on handhelds, but maybe that's just me.

@gorg9000 @valis_game Personally I would prefer to completely remake the older games to kind of unify their varying stories and characters. Each version of Valis 1 had different bosses even tho the overall plot is the same. After that we can worry about new games with new lore.

@St1ka Regardless of that, your videos would be protected under fair use as educational and as research, critique, commentary, and - in a few cases - reporting. I doubt the fact that the games are being shown through emulation is enough alone for Nintendo to have a legitimate claim.

@redchessqueen99 While I agree on principle, we also have to accept reality at face value and understand that those people exist. In order to rectify the problem, the solution(s) may seem perpetually looping, but truly only when the heroes become the villains themselves. Thus my response.

@redchessqueen99 I would happily syphon from the banks and redistribute to the people from which they malignantly benefitted from. Take from the undeserving, predatory rich and give back to the working poor. And if they lose the $1b, then it's insured by the Feds - another corrupted organization.

@redchessqueen99 In case you didn't notice, the $1bil has to sit in order to generate wealth for everyone. Also, society is not yet at a point where wealth and money are meaningless, therefore the truly enlightened thing to do would be to find a way to make the most people the happiest you can.

@redchessqueen99 Take the billion, invest it on ~10% interest/returns, then give everyone $100 in perpetuity. Even at 5% interest, that's 20x rate before meeting the original $1k offer and everyone will be receiving well beyond that. The only "correct" answer given that it results in smth better.
