JAMES chose “Everybody’s Safe Until…” by Paris Texas from their album MID AIR (2023). It’s an alternative hip-hop track mixed with rock elements, with a raw, intense, and pretty dark atmosphere. The lyrics explore paranoia, fear, inner conflict, and the feeling of being unsafe.
What I find really interesting is that James plays two different versions of himself and uses a Handycam instead of a gun. In English, the word “shoot” can mean both firing a gun and taking photos or filming videos. So he’s basically playing with the double meaning of the word through visuals, which is called visual wordplay. Such a creative idea!
And when you connect that to the lyric, “There’s people tryna kill me, other than me,” the scene where James confronts another version of himself becomes even more meaningful.
It could be a symbolic representation of inner conflict, a battle between two sides of himself. Maybe it represents confronting another side of who he is, or even trying to leave his old self behind and become someone new.
And the fact that the video ends with a smile makes the whole story even more open to interpretation.
There’s something playful, dark, and incredibly creative about the whole thing. James really has such an amazing mind for ideas and creativity. Seriously, he’s so talented!! ❤
Note: This is just my own interpretation, and it might not be what James actually had in mind.
