What I appreciate the most about #OperationSafedSagar beyond celebrating the tactical approach by the Indian air force is how openly critical the show is on the ageing Mig 21 jets by the late 1990s.

This was one of the main catalysts for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra to make Rang De Basanti too.

what a damn series! Raw, gripping, and incredibly realistic. The portrayal of army life, camaraderie, courage and the realities behind an operation makes it even more powerful.
A story of Kargil that every Indian should definitely watch.

From 2024-2026 approximately 25 war/spy/ military films or series released so it is hard to find the best ones. #operationsafedsagar is emotional, grounded and not a forced patriotic narration. One of the best in 2026. Production quality from Netflix. A must watch 👍👍👍

Thank you Mr Anchit. I must appreciate your detailed review as well, especially the fact that in the end you have given leeway to the makers for other considerations.
The original script was a movie titled 'Golden Arrows' and was conceptualised as far back as 2018 or so. It was limited only to them but as iterations happened over the years, we realised that there are other aspects which needs to be covered as well and we even filmed them accordingly. This was personally important to me as an IAF veteran herself, since most of the personnel in the war were some of my seniors with whom I had served and who over time have become a family of sorts.
Realising the vast content that we had filmed, the makers finally changed it to a crisp 6 episode web series, shortened from the original 9 episodes.
The majority of the credit what everyone finally saw and liked goes to the Director @OniSen_ and his team of ADs, DOP, Art Department and the various line producers.
We could have stayed true to the type of MiG 21 used during that time but that would have meant using CGI/VFX for all the sequences and hence a creative decision was made to use the MiG 21 Bison, atleast on the ground and for takeoff and landing shots. To create an authentic look of the aircraft, its necessary to carry out a LiDAR scan of the airframe and we could manage to do that at the AF museum in Palam. The series per se was produced by Matchbox Shots and Good Films, out of which Matchbox Shots, is owned and run by Mr Sanjay Rautray and Mrs Sarita Patil, who is herself the sister of former VCAS of the IAF Air Marshal Shirish Baban Deo.
It would be a folly to not make a mention of the script writers and research assistants who spent not hours, but weeks and months going over the tiniest details, with an aim to make it as close to reality as possible.
In the end, its a zero sum game and financial restrictions override everything else. There was a fixed budget and we tried to do justice with whatever means were available.
I must also thank Dr AK Mishra of History Division, MoD for his guidance and prompt help by Air Cmde Ops and Gp Capt Ops of Dte of Media and Public Relations at Air HQ and the continuing support from the office of the Chief of the Air Staff and all other officials who gave us some really fabulous pointers and guidance from time to time.
There are multiple anecdotes of my time while filming this series and I will pen them down sometime in the future.
