We could not be more excited to finally announce the launch of the Matchpoint OPEN BETA!!!
Check out the website link and some of our features down below ๐
Until the NA community collectively decides to change to its culture and approach to matchmaking/improvement it wonโt matter who/what service is created/used.
The community needs to decide Matchmaking services add value to skill progression other then just bragging rights
So can NA actually stay committed to using a matchmaking site? My time on Smashmate in Japan was very seamless and made grinding the game online there effortless, I don't get why services like MatchBox die when they provide basically all the essentials you need for matchmaking
steve probably shouldn't be allowed on smashpros it just kinda ruins it lmao, at least give people the chance to cancel the match if they're forced to fight steve
@PracticalTAS@L4st_v1@imESAM@zorsti Maybe, but products can be changed and adjusted easily, culture is a lot harder to change, so even if I built the exact product to spec that youโre talking about it wouldnโt matter if the culture wasnโt ready to support it. Of course we want to build what the community wants.
Itโs almost like one region has a resource that is used by its entire player base to improve while others hides its top players behind gated discord communities ๐ค ๐คท
@PracticalTAS@L4st_v1@imESAM@zorsti Hate to break it to you but itโs not a product problem, itโs a culture problem. If it was a product problem one of the multiple other entries in the space would have taken root.
@L4st_v1@imESAM@zorsti ELO isnโt gatekeeping as you put it, its what allows you to be paired with people relatively in range of your skill level so that you are always receiving competition relative to your skill as your participate in competitive systems.
@L4st_v1@imESAM@zorsti The difference is opportunity, in closed systems only those with access get the opportunity to participate. In open systems like Smashmate that use ELO as an objective rating system everyone is afford the opportunity to access higher levels of comp as they improve up the ladder.
@imESAM@zorsti Oh So top players arenโt currently apart of any discord communities that require an application process to join ๐ค. Anyone from the general playerbase can come get games with yall!! My bad ๐

โPeople just use matchmaking to get wins in better players to brag about it, not as a tool to actually improveโ
Once ppl realize that itโs your Rank on the ladder and not individual wins that matter, this sentiment will change.
Remember:
Fun Fact: If all the people who say โI would play on the matchmaking sites if they were activeโ actually started queuing, then the matchmaking sites would be active.
Be the change you want to see. #passiton
The skill ceiling in NA Smash is declining will continue to degrade until the community shifts its mindset and starts adopting open and objective spaces where players connect with other players in competitive formats outside tournaments to improve.
@lostzawg@REALOranguBang Point degradation is a natural sign of a healthy ladder system it makes it very hard to just sit top because points are being traded frequently
