Pendant que le monde libre célébrait son combat pour la dignité, Winnie Mandela faisait régner la terreur absolue sur les siens.

Dès le milieu des années quatre-vingt, elle s'entoure d'une milice cyniquement baptisée le Mandela United Football Club, chargée de kidnapper, torturer et liquider tout Sud-Africain noir refusant de se soumettre à son autorité.

En avril 1986, elle légitime publiquement le supplice du pneu enflammé en hurlant à la foule : avec nos boîtes d'allumettes et nos colliers, nous libérerons ce pays.

Cette méthode barbare garantissait une agonie hurlante de vingt minutes à des centaines de victimes brûlées vives pour asseoir son emprise locale.

Loin de regretter ces lynchages, elle assumera sa brutalité radicale en déclarant froidement lors d'interviews qu'elle n'était pas le produit de Nelson Mandela, mais le produit des masses et de son ennemi.

L'horreur culmine avec l'affaire Stompie Moeketsi, un enfant de quatorze ans enlevé et battu à mort sous de fausses accusations d'espionnage.

Lors des audiences post-apartheid, son propre chef de la sécurité, Jerry Richardson, a avoué l'assassinat en témoignant sous serment : j'ai tué Stompie sur les instructions de "Mami" (le surnom respectueux et terrifié que lui donnaient ses miliciens) car nous la craignions tous.

D'autres rescapés ont décrit devant les caméras les séances de torture à coups de fouets et de câbles électriques orchestrées directement dans l'arrière-cour de sa propre maison.

Une partie de l'intelligentsia progressiste continue pourtant de la vénérer comme une sainte laïque de l'émancipation.

Les auditions de la Commission de la vérité racontent plutôt l'histoire d'une baronne de sang qui a marché sur les cadavres de son propre peuple pour s'assurer le contrôle absolu des townships.

Every time someone says "1948," we only get half the story. So here's the whole thing.

In November 1947, the UN voted to divide the land into two states, one Jewish and one Arab. The UN didn't give the Jews a country. It recognized a people with 3,000 years of roots in the land, who had been promised a home since 1917.

The Jews got a small, fragmented territory, and Jerusalem wasn't even part of it. They said yes anyway. The Arab leaders said no. The day after the vote, Jewish buses were attacked, and the country slid into war.

And to those who say Israel stole a country.

There was no Palestinian state to steal from. The land had been ruled by the Ottomans for 400 years and then by the British. Israel got its share through the UN. The rest came from a war the other side started.

On May 14, 1948, Israel declared independence. The next day, five Arab armies invaded from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. The goal wasn't a Palestinian state. The goal was that there would be no Jewish state.

Israel had no real army and barely any weapons, and many of its soldiers were Holocaust survivors who had come ashore only months earlier. They won because the alternative was to die.

Yes, around 700,000 Palestinians lost their homes in that war. Some were expelled by Israeli forces. That's documented, and it shouldn't be denied. Others fled the fighting, and some were told by their own leaders to leave their villages until the Arab armies had won. They didn't.

But there was another expulsion nobody talks about.

Around 850,000 Jews were driven out or pushed out of Arab countries like Iraq, Egypt, Yemen, and Morocco. Families who had lived there for centuries lost everything. The Jews of Jerusalem's Old City were expelled by Jordan.

Israel took them in and gave them new lives.

The Arab countries did the opposite with the Palestinians.

They kept them in camps and in refugee status that is now passed down to the fourth generation, so today there are nearly six million registered refugees.

In Lebanon, they're still barred from a long list of professions. And from 1948 to 1967, Jordan held the West Bank and Egypt held Gaza. Neither of them created a Palestinian state. They could have done it at any time.

Israel took in refugees, drained swamps, and built a beautiful country with no oil and enemies on every border.

The Palestinian leaders were offered the same chance, and they chose war instead. Imagine what could have been built if they had said yes.

The roughly 160,000 Arabs who stayed in Israel became Israeli citizens. Today they number around two million, with the right to vote, their own parties, and seats in parliament.

So when someone says Israel was built on expulsion, remember the whole picture. The Palestinians were offered a state before Israel even existed. The Arab side chose war. Israel defended itself.

Israel didn't start that war. It just refused to lose it.

Today a new school year officially started in Gaza. More than 500,000 children are expected to study through schools, temporary centers and UNRWA facilities.

What exactly are these children being taught?

In a Palestinian Authority Arabic textbook for fifth graders, Dalal al Mughrabi is presented as a martyr and a symbol of heroism. She led the 1978 Coastal Road massacre in which dozens of Israeli civilians were murdered, including 13 children.

Another Palestinian religious education textbook portrayed Jews collectively as enemies who repeatedly tried to kill the Prophet Muhammad. The independent German Georg Eckert Institute, in research commissioned by the EU, said this material contained stereotypes that could clearly be characterized as antisemitic.

And according to a 2025 review by IMPACT se, material prepared for Gaza during the war still included Dalal al Mughrabi together with other celebrated figures and described them as the crown of the nation and the source of its glory.

Where is the accountability?

Why should a 10 year old learn about someone who led a massacre on civilians as a hero?

Why does the Palestinian leadership demand recognition from the world while allowing an education system that teaches the elimination and removal of people who are different from them?

How can we seriously talk about any solution while children are exposed to this?

And how many generations need to grow up before Palestinian leaders decide that teaching coexistence is more important than glorifying people who murdered civilians?

Palestinian children are not responsible for this.

The adults writing the books, approving them and refusing for years to fully reform this system are.

Researchers wired a piece of dead human brain to a robot.. and it learned to play piano.

they took an adult human brain explant (yes, dead brain tissue), kept the neurons alive in a dish, and hooked it up to an anthropomorphic robotic hand equipped with a microphone.

they didn't use backpropagation. they didn't train a silicon neural net. they just let the biological brain tissue listen to the sounds of piano notes while the robot pressed the keys.

through pure unsupervised sensory-motor learning, the disembodied brain tissue mapped the audio frequencies to the physical motor movements.. and then it started controlling the robot hand itself to imitate the human piano playing it heard.

the brain tissue retained this new "memory" and bi-directional plasticity for several days.. it only stopped when researchers actively disrupted the electrical neurotransmission.

this is a massive leap for hybrids. we are moving past artificial neural networks and straight into using literal human neurons as biological processors for machines.

PIGEON CASTLES OF ANCIENT PERSIA: THE TOWERS BUILT TO HARVEST BIRD POOP FOR MELONS AND GUNPOWDER

Centuries ago, farmers around Isfahan built thousands of tall mud-brick towers in the fields.

hese were not homes for people. They were giant nesting houses for wild pigeons.

The birds were not raised for meat.
Their droppings were the real treasure.
The soil in that region lacked nitrogen, and pigeon dung was an excellent natural fertilizer, especially for the famous local melons and cucumbers.

A single large tower could hold thousands of birds. Once a year farmers collected the dried droppings from the bottom, mixed them with soil and ash, and spread them on the fields.

The same dung was also used to soften leather and, in smaller amounts, to make gunpowder.

European travelers in the 1600s were amazed. One counted more than 3,000 of these towers around the city.

Today only a few hundred remain, most of them in ruins, because chemical fertilizer replaced the old method.

That is the story: ingenious farm buildings designed to harvest fertilizer from pigeons.
