Manchester United’s reported agreement with Chelsea for André Santos an initial £48 million, plus £2 million in add ons and a possible 10% sell on clause feels like another clear statement of intent from the INEOS era.

More than the player himself, the deal reflects a club that is no longer being driven by public pressure or emotion. In the past, under previous leadership, fan sentiment often seemed to influence transfer decisions, contributing to inflated fees and poor value in the market.

INEOS have repeatedly stressed that they will not overpay, and this move appears to reinforce that stance. By sticking to a data led recruitment strategy, they have identified a midfielder they believe in at a fee that looks sensible in today’s inflated market.

The bigger picture is just as important. If these smart, fairly priced signings succeed, it sends a message across Europe: Manchester United can compete and win without paying whatever selling clubs demand. That removes the desperation factor and strengthens the club’s position in future negotiations.

For me, that cultural shift is just as exciting as the signing itself. It’s an encouraging sign for the future, and I can’t wait to see what Santos brings to Old Trafford this season.
