@MichaelEMann@olliemilman@NiranjanAjit@guardian@GuardianUS The concept of "US leadership on climate" is just as an excuse for policy makers across the globe to not act on climate. Other countries and institutions could have stepped up a long time ago, but were happy with scapegoating the US for our collective, global inaction.
We penned "We find ourselves amid an abrupt climate upheaval, a dire situation never before encountered in the annals of human existence." Thanks to my distinguished coauthors of our State of the Climate Report- @MichaelEMann@rahmstorf@jrockstrom

A member of the Wash Post editorial department tells me: Bezos's decision not to endorse is "an outrageous abdication of responsibility. Democracy doesn't die in darkness, it dies when people anticipatorily consent to a fascist's whims."
Let’s get something straight about fossil fuel phase-out: renewables needn’t replace all the coal, oil and gas we use today bc most of it is just used to produce and move those fossil fuels around!
We only need to replace the useful energy: 37% of what we currently produce 🫨🧵
So get this: the world's coral reefs disappear at 1.5C. We are past 1.5C now and heading for 2C.
THEY ARE DONE.
The point is not "OMG, all those lovely colourful things we see on David Attenborough are going to go."
No. The point is 25% of the world's fish will disappear as well.
No. The point is 1-2 billion people depend on those fish. 100s of millions of people will starve.
You're right, it could 'just' be only 10s of millions. So that's okay then. No problem.
Such an excellent illustration of how inefficient fossil fuels are and how manufactured our dependency actually is.
Close to half of all shipping traffic worldwide is just moving fossil fuels around
Last year, the earth's forests, plants and soil suffered so much damage from #ClimateChange that they no longer served collectively as a carbon sink.
This is very bad news.
And it's an event not projected by climate models for 2023.
#EndFossilFuels now! https://t.co/VIKnnZ6qWk
