Looking forward to the poster by my wonderful research assistant Madeline Lieberman, from our project on AI and academic integrity (sponsored by a @USCResearch ASPIRE-AI grant) at Discover USC. Friday, April 24 at 9:30 am Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. #DiscoverUSC2026
And thus, sociology may end as it began, with suicide. It's painful to have to agree with a university administrator, but the Florida Chancellor is right about too many, if not all, sociologists. And for suicide victims, any wake-up call will be too little too late.
I spoke with the chancellor of @SUS_Florida about the vote today to cut sociology entirely from gen ed.
He told me: “I want to make sure I get this quote right, and I want to make sure you get it right. We didn’t murder sociology. Sociology committed suicide.”
@MiamiHerald Sadly, considering what passes for sociology at times, there is some value to this decision, even when it's overly broad and partly political. Perhaps it will serve as a wake-up call for the next generation of sociologists to reclaim sociology as a social science.
As practitioners of the science of sociology, there is a reckoning to be noted in the removal of sociology from the core in Florida. This damage to the sociological profession is largely self-inflicted, due to the drift to pervert scholarship with ideology, not least in the ASA.
Sad to hear of the passing of Jürgen Habermas. A major influence and the subject of several of my writings, Habermas was well-known for his defense of rationality and Enlightenment, especially during crises.
Looking forward to our poster, “AI and Academic Integrity: An Institutional Analysis of University Policies” (with Madeline Lieberman) at AI Day at USC, University of South Carolina, Russell House, March 19, 2026.

Rewarding and fulfilling to have visited Israel again this year, though I hope, of course, the sad circumstances will change. Until we meet again. #BringThemHomeNow
Today on Sukkot in Tel Aviv October 7 we remember, never to forget, and keep our hope for peace. Bring them all home, now. #Oct7#October7#BringThemHomeNow
The rally last night at Hostage Square in Tel Aviv was especially meaningful as hope grows that the hostages will return home and the war in Gaza will end.
