Most Web3 founders are losing the AI search war and don't even know they're playing it.
800M people ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude before Google now.
Here's how AI search actually works, and why your project is probably invisible :
this is the real segmentation. Publishers monetize pageviews so zero click = revenue loss
service businesses monetize conversions so zero click via AI citation = direct conversion path
the framework everyone needs :
opt-out becomes a function of how you make money
publisher ? probably opt-out
service biz ? opt-in is the obvious move
SaaS ? depends if your buyer is researching or comparing
ecommerce ? depends on category trust signals
it's not one strategy. it's four
exactly. and the layer after that : which signals AI weighs HOW MUCH
structured data on your site vs LinkedIn entity vs reddit mention vs wikipedia citation. They don't carry equal weight and the hierarchy shifts per LLM. ChatGPT trusts different sources than Perplexity
mapping that hierarchy is where the real GEO playbook lives
agree on the list. add one :
- distribution
the founders who scale aren't just doing what they love or moving fast. They're systematically building reasons for other people to know they exist. You can have grit, speed and flow and still be invisible
the discipline of being seen is the missing
skill
the trap nobody mentions :
even builders consume fearbased content sometimes. It's part of the founder diet.
the difference isn't avoiding fear inputs, it's making sure your fear consumption stays below your build hours. 1 hour of doomscrolling AI Twitter is fine if you have 5 hours of shipping that day. Ratio matters more than purity
the launch nobody's talking about with this :
in 12 months half the sites on the internet will be built by AI agents like Codex. And they'll all be invisible in AI search unless someone teaches the agents to ship llms.txt, structured data, schema by default. site creation just got democratized. Site discoverability didn't
Interesting gap to watch
the missing prompts/topics piece is the actual story. Impressions in AI Overviews tell you you're being shown but not WHY. Without prompt data, optimization stays partially blind. You can see if you appear in AI answers but not which user intent triggers the citation
still huge that Google is finally surfacing this data. But the real GEO insight will come from third party tools that track the prompt layer
the bigger shift is that "ChatGPT" became synonym with AI before most people understood what LLMs even were
naming wins category. by the time agents are mainstream, the new default verb will be "ask the agent" not "ask chatgpt"
the brand that owns the verb owns the category. wild decade ahead
the part that's gonna get interesting :
when opensea is the place to trade NFTs, RWAs, perps, AND tokens, the discovery layer becomes the actual product
"where do I trade X" becomes "what should I trade for Y goal" and the platform that answers that wins
less about being the best place to trade. More about being the place AI sends users when they ask
@henokcrypto the "GPT X will change everything" tweet has been posted at every model release since GPT-3
the world keeps not ending and not being revolutionized either. What actually shifts is who learns to use the new capabilities faster than competitors
the part most people miss in this new funnel :
AI search compresses the 9 month lurk into 1 conversation. Someone asks ChatGPT "best X for Y" and gets 3 names. If you're not one of them the 9 months of content you produced for SEO might not even matter
content still wins. But it has to be the content AI cites not just the content humans google
If you're a founder and this thread made you sweat a little :
- reply "AUDIT" or DM me
- i'll run your project through chatgpt, perplexity, claude, grok
- you'll see exactly where the gap is
free. 30 min. no pitch unless you ask.
Fix for reason 3 :
map the 20 natural language queries your buyers ask AI.
audit which ones you appear in.
most projects : 0/20
fix = content + structure + authoritative co-mentions targeting those exact phrasings
