Interesting that @HillaryScholten and her staff are facing threats from @DemSocialists, yet @JohnforMI can’t find two seconds to condemn it. One of his own colleagues and a fellow Michigander. Campaign together one day, stay silent when they’re under fire the next. And this is the leadership I’m supposed to reward with my vote?!

Today, I received a threatening letter at my Grand Rapids, Michigan office that contained unidentified white powder. The letter, which claimed to be from the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), made a direct and specific reference to an impending “civil war” beginning after the election. The letter sent to my office is similar to those received at other congressional offices across the country. The DSA has not yet addressed the attacks, either to condemn them or to take or deny responsibility. The Grand Rapids Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) responded immediately.

Threats and extremism are not signs of strength—they are signs of a weak mind and weak character. Political intimidation has no place in our democracy, and leaders must condemn it, not excuse it. I’ll keep standing up to bullies on the right and the left.

@JohnforMI spent the weekend posing arm-in-arm with @AbdulElSayed like they were co-captains of the world’s most confused intramural team.
Fitzgerald has spent his time in office mostly perfecting the art of nodding along to whatever the Democratic caucus already decided. Now he’s decided the next logical step is a smiling photo with a man who once declared, “You may not hate Muslims, but Muslims definitely hate you.” Bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see if it pays off.
Most people with even mild political survival instincts (see: Scholten) managed to avoid the photo op. Fitzgerald, however, went full embrace. Nothing says “I represent Michigan” quite like grinning next to someone who framed the country as the enemy.
Anyway, white bread. Hope the selfie was worth it. 🖕🏻
