Nate Mercereauは、Los Angelesを拠点に活動するマルチ・インストゥルメンタリスト、作曲家、プロデューサー。André 3000『New Blue Sun』への参加や、Carlos Niño、Josh JohnsonとのOpenness Trioで知られるほか、Leon Bridges、Lizzo、JAY-Z、The Weeknd、Sade、John Legendらの作品にも参加。ポップ・ミュージックの最前線から即興、実験音楽までを横断してきた稀有な音楽家である。

2019年のソロ・デビュー作『Joy Techniques』以降、Sam Gendelとの『digi-squires』や、Golden Gate Bridgeの振動音と共演した『Duets | Golden Gate Bridge』など、ギターと音響の可能性を押し広げる作品を発表してきた。

その探究の集大成となる『Fantastic Thoughts』は、ほぼ全編インストゥルメンタルで構成され、驚異的な演奏力、急激な展開、複雑に折り重なるリズム、セルフ・サンプリングが目まぐるしく交錯する。Yes、Mahavishnu Orchestra、Jimi Hendrix、King Crimson、Jon Hassell、Squarepusher、Frank Zappa、Brian Enoらからの影響を飲み込みながら、懐古に陥ることなく、現在進行形のプログレッシヴ・ミュージックへと更新している。
