New insights into immune responses https://t.co/GaacDZIaj4
It's been a busy few weeks so a little late in sharing this! Very pleased to report that our study on the conservation of Mucosal Associated Invariant T cells between species has recently been published in JBC.
A few key points:
Humans had the largest population of MAIT cells, with a tenfold greater proportion than other species.
Mice have approximately 100-fold fewer MAIT cells compared to humans.
Pigs showed no obvious population of MAIT cells, despite encoding the MR1 protein.
Happy Birthday to #OxfordBiology! Today we officially launch the new Department of Biology @UniofOxford. This launch marks the merger of Zoology & Plant Sciences to create a department focused on exploring the complexity & diversity of life 🪲🐦🐟🦠🌿

I had a fantastic time presenting the work from my master's on the development of a pan-genotypic viral vectored T cell vaccine against Hepatitis C at the #hcvflavi2022 conference. A great conference very thankful for the opportunity to present!
Very excited to see this work on #COVID19 published in @JCI_insight 😃
Really enjoyed working on this with @craigpthomp@MatthewEdmans@JudithWellens & the rest of the lab - also extremely grateful to everyone who contributed to the study!!! https://t.co/tHgKGxgsHV
Just arrived home from #DDW2022.
It was great to have the opportunity to present some of the work of @ICARUSIBD—all a massive team effort with colleagues @JudithWellens@craigpthomp, and many more.
Small but mighty! This is a video of a killer T cell of the immune system destroying a monstrous ovarian cancer cell. I recently captured this data on a spinning disc confocal microscope.
@JudithWellens kicked off with data from the @ICARUSIBD project on the antibody neutralisation capacity after natural #Covid19 infection in patients with #IBD treated with biological agents
Absolutely loved working on this project with @craigpthomp @RPatonOx @MatthewEdmans@JudithWellens and many others, it was a big big team effort!!! Lots of support from the Peter Medawar Building, @NDMOxford@NDM_Papers & @OxZooDept communities, as well as further afield!
