The 9/11 Memorial and Museum is collecting donations to continue educating children and young adults on the TERRORIST (sorry, Canada, it was) attack on September 11th, 2001. They do this in schools and social media. Sadly, there are a lot of young people folks who have no idea who did it, and are now getting exposed to “America deserved it” philosophy. Just a reminder, the youngest victim was Christine Lee Hansen, she was 2 and a half years old. Giving a few bucks is a beautiful thing, to share the stories of victims and survivors, how we came together (briefly, sadly) in the aftermath, and the continuing loss of life from illnesses and injuries from the rescuers. Washington Nationals fan? May want to watch this. They apparently do not like Christians being vocal on their team. One of their players spoke out against another team’s fans for dressing up as transgender nuns, as it insulted his faith. The team’s administration said that they should bar the Christian player from making any public statements. There was secret camera coverage of this bizarre, illegal, violation of religious beliefs and discrimination. Of course, now, there is a lawsuit. The Washington Capitals Community Relations employee, is a self-professed communist, and the group that mocked Catholic Nuns, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, had a member, Adam Westbrook, that was arrested for child pornography, that involved his foster son. At what time in our history, did anyone decide to silence Christians, and allow communists and child pornographers a preferred voice and freedom of expression over them? The foundation, legal standard of police use of force is found in on landmark case known as GRAHAM VERSUS CONNOR. if you are not a police officer or an attorney, you may have never heard of it. I would like to share it, because our schools, colleges, government officials, and parents have been remiss in their duties to ensure that we all understand this. It is absolutely SHOCKING to me, after years of police use of force situations, that cause riots, dissection, and public dismay, that people have never heard of this. Some of main concepts of Graham vs Connor….

Of course, there must be a situation where the officer, or others, are in danger of SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. Can rocks cause serious injury? Of course. Vehicles? Attempting to disarm an officer?

The force must be reasonable to exact the arrest. It would not be expected for an officer to use only verbal commands against a vehicle (which is a weapon) to stop the aggressive action. Just as an officer may be expected to use verbal commands to disarm a baseball bat from someone, in certain situations. Verbal commands are a step in the use of force ladder, believe it or not!!!

When judging the officer, you must use the context of what a REASONABLE OFFICER would have done, not a person. Sorry, reasonable people, many of you lack the understanding of the dynamics in of a use of force situation. I had a neighbor once as me, “why didn’t they shoot the gun out of his hand?” Thanks to Hollywood, many of you think that shooting someone with a pistol makes them fly over a car. It doesn’t. Sometimes you have to shoot some multiple times to stop “aggressive action”. Officers are not trained to shoot to kill. GENERALLY, your lighter caliber rounds are compared to getting hit by a fast ball, many factors depending, adrenalin, location of injury, etc…You may think that shooting someone with a knife who is 25’ away is unreasonable. It is not. There are practical drills in police training that show a person with a knife can charge and assault an officer at 20’, or more. In those training exercises the officer is frequently able to get one round off, if any.

WARNED AGAINST USING 20/20 HINDSIGHT. Which many of you are doing now. Out come the arm-chair, use of force, expert attorneys. Many of them drive Uber, are teachers, Mayors, real estate attorneys, soldiers, and hosts of budding expert witnesses. Of course, you can have and share your opinion! It’s a great country! However, use of force situations are tense, dynamic, and immediate. To dissect them in the comfort and ease of a controlled, safe environment, using self-supporting internet research is not, thankfully, a foundation, of determining if force was justified. . You will find at police departments, there are cadres of officers that take use of force laws, statutes, current incidents extremely seriously . Many of them study, research, watch news, dissect incidents throughout their careers, because it is the true “Achilles Tendon” of a law enforcement officer. It can get you imprisoned, career loss, disabled, or sued. It can also make you dead or hurt, or cause the same to fellow officers, or the public. If you hesitate, and don’t have a clear and instantaneous, understanding how you are justifiably able to respond, the results are disastrous.
