Huge shout out to Shaun Bythell who, sadly is not on Twitter anymore but remains a bookselling legend... Return of the Bookseller Diarist is published on Thursday by @newmodernbooks and it's ace

(Trumpet noises) It’s here! It’s arrived! Our Talking Bottom 2027 calendars sent our letterbox flapping and are now on-hand as prizes for our upcoming competitions! They’ll mainly be won in the run-up to Christmas but we’ll be doing a special Halloween-based competition next
It's funny when people moan that some scenes in #SlowHorses are unrealistic. Like, what part of the premise - 'MI5 keeps a nest of third-rate reject spies with addiction issues on the payroll and they always outwit foreign intelligence agencies and terrorists' - seems plausible?
Blair said at the time of Ken Bigley's murder:
"I feel utter revulsion at the people who did this".
Michael Howard, then Conservative leader, condemned the killers' "grotesque barbarity", and said:
"To those who committed this atrocious and despicable act our message is: we shall never give in to blackmail from terrorists."
But we did give in didn't we? The wretched scum, Mohammed Yaseen, was part of the group that murdered Ken. And now he walks the streets of Britain a free man and at our expense. The cost of keeping him in the UK has been estimated at up to £85,000 a year.
I remember the daily news back in 2004 about Ken Bigley. His name was etched into the consciousness of people up and down the country. When I was in the hostages team in the Foreign Office years later his case was still studied - infamous for its barbarism.
This country has utterly betrayed Ken's family and his memory
