We don't have any annual awards for the best writing published by Clevelanders, but if we did, what books, stories, essays, poems, or articles from 2023 would you nominate? Here are mine. #BestClevelandWriting 1/
Trying to understand how this story published with my byline last week while I was on my honeymoon. I did not write or review a word of it and it does not pull info from past reporting. Does https://t.co/HnBcPb1J5r think they just own my name now?

I always tell my students, you can be certain that Toni Morrison herself carefully chose every word she ever wrote. That's what makes close reading her work so enjoyable and so fruitful. Today, we launch PASSAGES, a podcast about reading Morrison together. https://t.co/twlhFyoouN
“The only journalism business strategy that works, and that will ever work in a sustainable way, is if you create something of value that people (human beings, not bots) want to read or watch or listen to, and that they cannot find anywhere else.”

🚨 OH libraries are at risk. The Ohio House budget plan cuts the Public Library Fund—meaning fewer resources for your local library.

✂️Say: Don’t cut my library. Restore PLF to 1.75%.

With Ed Choice, "the $ is flowing mostly to parents who are already able to afford tuition... When vouchers do draw students away from public districts, they threaten to exacerbate declining enrollment, forcing underpopulated schools to close."
New: Private letters reveal the strategy behind the decadeslong quest -- successful in 12 states and counting -- by politicians, church officials and activists to make taxpayer-funded school vouchers available not just to the poor but to the wealthy. https://t.co/rJ47bSGoQ9

🌎 Hi everyone, let’s talk about what’s next for writers in our city.
We know that many are feeling deeply after the election, and now, more than ever, coming together to process, write, and create will be vital as we move into the years ahead.
That is why we’ll be #extending our 4 FREE in-person monthly Library Writing Groups at the Cleveland Public Library into 2025. These Saturday morning groups are open to everyone and focus on helping us create fiction, nonfiction, and poetry together in community ⤵️
🔵 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩
Every 1st Saturday @ Rice Branch
🔵 𝐍𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩
Every 2nd Saturday @ Hough Branch
🔵 𝐏𝐨𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩
Every 3rd Saturday @ South Branch
🔵 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩
Every 4th Saturday @ Lorain Branch
In addition, we are in the process of developing 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐀𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐬 to create sanctuaries of solidarity and creativity for writers navigating challenging times. These groups will provide dedicated spaces for connection, expression, and support within specific communities, including the 🔴 BIPOC writers, 🔴LGBTQIA+ writers, and 🔴 immigrant writers (details coming soon).
🟠 Lastly, we are continuing Early Ink, our #free virtual morning silent writing group that meets online daily from 6-8am via Zoom to write together in community.
We hope these groups become a place for you to share your story, gain support and inspiration, explore bold ideas, and find strength through the written word.
