The FDNY extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fellow members mourning the loss of Boston Firefighter Robert T. Kilduff, who tragically died in the line of duty while operating at a three-alarm fire on Treadway Road.

The UFA mourns the untimely passing of Active Duty Firefighter Karan P. Thadhani of Ladder 135.

Before serving as a Firefighter, FF Thadhani served New Yorkers as an FDNY EMS Paramedic. He will be remembered for his service, smile, and positive energy.

Some heroes climb ladders instead of wearing capes! On Sunday in Queens, members from Ladder 143 came to the rescue of a cat stuck in a tree, bringing it safely back to the ground. 🐾

After more than four decades with the FDNY, Lieutenant Joseph LaPointe is retiring. For nearly 25 of those years, LaPointe has served as the head of our Ceremonial Unit. He has helped to shape and protect the many traditions that define the standard of excellence of the FDNY. He will be greatly missed, and we wish him well in retirement. Congratulations Lieutenant!

EMS Lieutenant PJ Acosta has dedicated nearly 25 years of his life in service of others. In December, he was the one who needed help. Acosta was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease and doctors said he needed a kidney transplant. The FDNY Family Assistance Unit reached out for help. Despite not knowing Lieutenant Acosta personally, Fire Bell Club member Theodore Earley stepped in, and donated his kidney in July. Today, Acosta is doing well and says he has a new brother.

🚨#BREAKING: A 3.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded moments ago near the New York City area, with the epicenter near Oakland, New Jersey. Numerous people reported feeling the shaking, with reports flooding in from Manhattan to the Bronx.

The August 2, 1978 fire at a Brooklyn Waldbaum's claimed the lives of six firefighters. It is one of the worst fires in the Department’s history. 

 20 members were on the roof when the supermarket's center section collapsed. 12 more were thrown into the flames.

Lt. James E. Cutillo of Battalion 33, Firefighter Charles S. Bouton of Ladder 156, Harold F. Hastings of Battalion 42, Firefighter James P. McGanus of Ladder 153, Firefighter William O'Connor of Ladder 156, and Firefighter George S. Rice of Ladder 153 made the ultimate sacrifice that day.

We will never forget them.

During a routine training at the FDNY Fire Academy, a Lieutenant went into cardiac arrest and was unresponsive. Members rushed to his side, beginning CPR, while others called for backup. Paramedic Veronica Cruz and Paramedic Nyla Page, who are assigned to the Fire Academy, immediately responded, supplementing pre-hospital care with advanced life support. After shocking the Lieutenant's heart, a pulse returned and life was restored. Today, the Lieutenant is home with his family, thanks to the swift actions of our Paramedics and members.

Three years ago, we lost Firefighter Timothy Klein of L170—“Canarsie’s Bravest.” Timmy gave his life so others could live. His legacy of service lives on through the Fight for Firefighters Foundation and the countless lives he continues to inspire.

A tradition for every Probationary class before graduation, the families saw firsthand the training the probies have completed over the last several months.

It is with deep sadness that the FDNY Foundation joins the FDNY in mourning the passing of retired FDNY EMS Lieutenant Anthony S. Cozzino of Station 43, who succumbed to his WTC illness on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Lieutenant Cozzino was a 26-year veteran of the department.
