The Case for Gleb Pugachyov in the Top 20
Gleb Pugachyov is one of the more underrated players in this draft. He comes in at No. 19 on my board, considerably higher than the consensus.
These rankings are intentionally playoff-centric, placing greater weight on the traits I value most when the games get tighter. Pugachyov’s overall profile aligns extremely well with those priorities.
Pugachyov’s 6’3”, nearly 200-pound frame is only part of what makes him such a difficult player to play against. It’s the ferocity with which he plays that truly sets him apart. He skates exceptionally well for his size and brings an edge that’s impossible to ignore, combining intimidating physicality with relentless forechecking, finishing checks with authority and a genuinely punishing style of play. Very few players can match the physical impact he brings to the game.
Hockey sense and skill both grade as average, so he’ll never become a primary offensive driver, but average doesn’t mean devoid of offensive ability. He’s shown enough flashes of skill and playmaking to suggest there’s enough there to become a winger who creates room for, insulates and complements skilled teammates. Players capable of complementing offensive players higher in the lineup while bringing that level of physicality are exceptionally difficult to find.
Regardless of the role he ultimately fills, he projects as the kind of physical force every contender covets in the playoffs, capable of making an impact without needing to fill the scoresheet.
Whether No. 19 ends up looking too high remains to be seen, but exceptional compete, a grade no other player earned, paired with the rest of his overall package, is exactly the kind of profile these rankings place a premium on.

@RussNour@NHL_Watcher Sens should take the MTL way to build their team. Build up a team so close, they doesn't care if it's in Canada. Hutson and Caufield took less money to be in MTL because they love their teamates. You'll be better off without Tkatchuk. He was such a bad vibe for your team.
@CatsandCanes@dstew44@ivandemigoal Haha well sorry for that 😂 Sometime, I saw Habs fans saying so much dumb things, Im like… man, stop giving us bad reputation haha
@CatsandCanes@dstew44@ivandemigoal Haha exactly! During that game, I was already thinking about our summer with that performance (same with game 7 against Buffalo). We’re ahead of schedule in the ECF
