"I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." -Elie Wiesel
@Merk256 How long are we gonna keep excusing Beane and passing blame to coaches? He just got a guy fired with that same rationale. Beane is the long-tenured GM. Whatever Leonhard’s preferences, pretty sure it’s more than fair to have Beane own success or failure of the draft at this point
CC @stoolpresidente … I’m a Buffalo native and as diehard a Bills fan as you’ll find, but relative to other cities with multiple pro teams Buffalo at its core IS a hockey town. @ryanwhitney6 ain’t wrong (not on this one at least.)
Buffalo hasn't made the playoffs since 2011... but
• they were the largest U.S. market for the 2026 Olympic Gold Medal Game
• In 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024 Stanley Cup Finals they were the largest local viewership from a neutral market
• In 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 they were the 3rd largest local viewership of any U.S. city for the complete postseason
• Game 1 tickets this year were $464 USD on average, the most of any team in the NHL
• they're projected as the largest U.S. market for the 2026 regular season
They're the most passionate American hockey city, hands down.
As someone who had season tix in both arenas - you’re both wrong. Lightning fans are real. Circa 05-06 they didn’t know puck, but have stayed true; they’re actually the most earnest sports fans in Tampa. But come on man… Sabs fans are resilient/passionate beyond TB comprehension
Most fans in Tampa go to games to drink overpriced cocktails, wear a hat with upside down letters, and post an IG story. They also have no idea who Chris Gratton is
Most fans in Buffalo go to games to simply watch puck. They also know who Chris Gratton is

@TimOBrienPgh@USATODAY As a “communications veteran” (per your bio) I’m more curious how you’d hear that answer and interpret it as anything resembling a “lecture on cultural issues.”
Al Michaels on the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team: “That was the first time that I can ever remember the ‘USA, USA’ chant. That hadn’t taken place at that point.”

🏒🇺🇸 The Miracle on Ice wasn’t just a game. It was a moment that united the entire country.
I got to sit down with the directors of Miracle: The Boys of ’80 . We explain why that moment still hits – and why sports may never feel like that again.

The new Miracle 🇺🇸 documentary on @netflix shows so much about Herb Brooks’ relationship with the guys that had never been seen before.
@MaxGersh, one of the directors, gave us this untold story about Herb that didn’t make the documentary.
There was nobody like him.
"[Herb Brooks] is such an interesting man... and the players have complicated feelings about him."
Directors of Miracle: The Boys of '80 (@MaxGersh & Jake Rogal) on @netflix join @JLazzy23 & @JeffMarek on Morning Cuppa Hockey to provide a behind-the-scenes look into one of the most historical moments in hockey history + a look around the NHL heading into the Milan Games.
