Byrne heavily implies that Gript shouldn't be on the Press Council as we allegedly "stir up hatred." But his government wants to pass a "hate speech" bill which would make "stirring up hatred" a criminal offence. This clearly implies the law would be used against journalists.

Funny thing happened yesterday: Senator @malcolmbyrne was very annoyed in the Oireachtas that Gript Media is a member of the Press Council of Ireland and vigorously questioned how this could be given how terrible we are and so on and so forth. He then made ample use of his Oireachtas privilege to smear us, as you might expect.

The funny thing is that it's a very easy question to answer, Malcolm: The defamation act of 2009, brought into law by your own party, mandates it:
