The 90th anniversary flight of the #Spitfire is today. The aircraft first saw combat over the River Forth in October 1939, defending against a raid of JU-88s hunting for HMS Hood. Read the story in my comic Raid on the Forth (link in bio)

@DrHelenFry On October 16th 1939 the Ju-88's used in the first air raid over Britain were mistakenly identified as Heinkels. There were only a dozen or so Ju88s in existence at the time, so few Brits had seen them. The Battle was also the first time the Spitfire saw combat.
