The MG 42 was one of the most formidable infantry weapons of the Second World War. Fallschirmjager-Division was formed in late 1943 and committed almost immediately to the brutal defensive fighting along the Italian front. At Anzio and Nettuno, the division found itself at the center of some of the most intense combat of the Italian campaign, tasked with containing the Allied beachhead established in January 1944. Fighting in difficult terrain against determined opposition, the division's paratroopers demonstrated tenacious discipline, holding defensive positions under sustained pressure for months. The Luftwaffe eagle insignia visible on the soldier's M38 fallschirmjäger helmet reflects the proud identity these men carried as elite airborne infantry.

The 7th Panzer Division under the command of Major General Rommel reached the French city of Bordeaux on the 24th of June 1940. The Division held a victory parade on the 6th of July in Bordeaux, with the 7th Panzer Division later encamping at Martignas-sur-Jalle til 1941 while preparations for Unternehmen Seelöwe (Operation Sea Lion) were underway.

Major General Erwin Rommel's 7th Panzer Division gained the nickname 'Gespenster Division' (Ghost Division) during operation 'Fall Gelb' (Case Yellow aka. The Invasion of France) from Rommel often going radio-silent in order to avoid waiting for orders from higher command. This both frustrated the 'Oberkommando des Heeres or OKH' (Army High Command) but allowed Rommel to act and move his forces faster, leaving the Command mostly in the dark to his location during the invasion.
