Entomologist. he/him. Ants, species interactions, conservation, metabarcoding; other exciting things! Currently working on army ant ecology in central Africa
How do non-native species fit into foodwebs? Our new paper in Ecology shows that native generalists (Scolopendra centipedes and Telfair's skinks) partition their diets with superabundant non-native ants, but also consume them!

🚨PHD OPPORTUNITY!🚨
Join us in Newcastle University to assess carabid beetle ecosystem services and foraging ecology, and develop new methods for inferring interactions between beetles and their food! 🪲🍽️💻

This is one of the coolest papers I've been involved with thus far! It's often tricky to tease apart results in field systems like this but the team (led by the supreme @JordanCuff) did a fab job with some sophisticated new tools and analyses. Great to be a part of! 🧵below 👇

Prey nutrient content is associated with the trophic interactions of spiders and their prey selection under field conditions

I'm super excited to see this out! Read about our exciting results in the thread below: 🧵👇
I had an absolutely wonderful time at @MasarykUni in Brno visiting Stano Pekár and giving a seminar to the Terrestrial Invertebrate Research Group! So many excellent conversations, incredible places and great science! I will definitely be back as soon as I can! 🇨🇿🕷️
🚨ANOTHER JOB ALERT!🚨
Love insect physiology and how it links to species coexistence in wild places? Come and work with me, @cjanion, @RebeccaASenior and @andrewbdavies at @UCT_news! 🐜🐜🐜❄️🔥
This is our second ant-facing postdoc funded by @HFSP.
Please share and apply!
🚨JOB ALERT🚨
Interested in how the microclimate mediates the coexistence of species rich insect communities?
Us too! Come and work @CUBiosciences with me, @andrewbdavies, @cjanion and @RebeccaASenior on our @HFSP funded project.

Our review on the dual role of ants as ecosystem engineers and providers of ecosystem services was published yesterday!

Double good news day: 2 more years of funding secured to research army ants 🐜 in Africa 🇬🇶, PLUS we completed a pilot Dorylus exclusion plot this week
Super excited… let’s see if it works🤞 🔍
More super cool scenes from Dorylus: vid 1 shows driver ants at their nest 10 mins before a raid and vid 2 was taken 2m ahead of the raid front later on
What's going on in our agricultural fields when we stop looking? 🤔🌾❓
A lot of biocontrol that current monitoring and research is overlooking! 🫨
Read about our review and proposal for year-round monitoring of biocontrol below!

Our last paper is out! Some red-necked #nightjars suffer bite attacks that cause mutilation of the feet and toes. The crime scene is located over 3,000 km apart, and a tropical #ant species turned out to be the main culprit!

This one's been been in the making for a long time. It was great to work with star ecologist @Julian_Resasco and rising star Anna Paraskevopoulos on it.
