Good.
If anyone in Labour came into politics to cut welfare they joined the wrong party.

I’d urge Labour MPs to read Frances Ryan’s article before they respond to Government’s green paper if it includes the reported cuts to disability benefits. Frances consistently articulates the feelings of disabled people & the majority of Labour supporters https://t.co/0WnFsm9Ado

The best education outcomes in a population are in Finland where there are no private schools. It can also be said that all tax payers pay for schemes like the music and dance scheme that private schools get while state schools have been forced to cut music provision due to budget cuts. Private schools also get £200M in direct subsidies that state schools don’t get.Only 4% of private school turnover is spent on bursaries for families that cannot afford private schools.

Anti-fascists in Manchester have outnumbered fascist Nick Tenconi and his far right mates by 4 to 1. Wherever the far right take to the streets, we’ll be there opposing them

A chilly afternoon on the doorsteps in #KursaalWard with Southend Labour Councillors colleagues and Bayo Alaba MP, with some great conversations with residents about local issues and their aspirations for our community.

From our earliest days, Black history has always been American history – and Black folks have profoundly shaped our American culture through music, art, literature, sports, and beyond. One month a year is not sufficient to celebrate the power of the movements and the people who have fought for the rights we enjoy today. That’s something that we have to do each and every day, as we strive to live up to their example and make sure our children and grandchildren remember their stories.

In Liverpool we know all about billionaire media moguls using untrammelled power to create lies & smears to build a false narrative to destroy & divide communities like Murdoch did in 1989 after Hillsborough.

Maybe Musk has shown the folly of Governments of all colours allowing these individuals that untrammelled power in hope of gaining their support…..

[Richard Burgon MP @RichardBurgon]

Today you are going to be fed a complete lie by the Conservative Party about a vote in Parliament this evening on the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill. This will be pushed by their social media mouthpieces as well as other right-wing voices, including the owner of this site. But you should not believe a word of it.

MPs are today voting on a Bill which aims to improve children’s education and wellbeing through measures that will help limit school uniform costs, introduce free breakfast clubs, make important reforms to academy schools, introduce a power to cap the profits made by children’s social care providers and create a compulsory Children Not in School register among other measures.

It is not a vote on a national inquiry into child sexual exploitation. Nor is there any Amendment which would add such an Inquiry to the Bill. Nor is one possible at this stage of a Bill. Any politician who says there is such an Amendment is lying to you.

There is simply game-playing by the Tories, who do have an Amendment, but an Amendment which is to throw out the WHOLE Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill.

Even if the Tory Amendment were passed, it would not add an Inquiry to the Bill – it would simply kill the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill, preventing all its positive measures being passed.

The Tories know all this, but they are continuing with their totally cynical and deliberate campaign of confusion (as part of their fight for survival in their political battle with Reform).

It is sickening to see child abuse, one of the most serious of all issues, being used as a political football in this way.

2025 is the year to erase the stain on the world's  conscience as Afghan girls and women are denied the most basic of human rights. Gender Apartheid is a crime against humanity. My article for @ProSyn

When the last carol has been sung
The work of Christmas begins
To ensure inclusion for the marginalised
To bring liberty to the oppressed
To welcome the refugee
To seek justice for all
That’s the joy and the challenge of 2025!

As someone who previously worked for a homeless charity in Harlow, I know the severity of this issue.

I am pleased the Labour Government is tackling this issue head on - giving local councils more funding to support people without roofs over their heads in their local areas.
