We need to get ahead of this Ebola outbreak. The humanitarian community is fully mobilized – but the challenges are immense. Speed, funding, access and community trust will determine whether we contain this.
Le choléra se propage et affecte déjà des milliers de personnes en #RDCongo. @UNCERF a réagi rapidement en débloquant les fonds nécessaires pour prévenir une crise incontrôlable.
Great first day joining Team @UNOCHA.
While I look forward to getting started, I do not doubt how tough the work will be.
But I start with hope, because our movement is strong and our cause is mighty.
Hear from me as I wrap up day 1.⬇️
In eastern #DRCongo, #Haiti, #Sudan and too many places around the world: the rampant rise in sexual violence is deeply disturbing.
This epitomizes the appalling nature of inhumanity to women and girls.
My remarks to the press at the @UN_Spokesperson daily briefing.
Global climate emergency and water scarcity require urgent action on #WaterAdaptation. The kick off of the 6th #CairoWaterWeek took place today. Water needs to be at the heart of climate action as decided at #COP27 and to achieving #SDG6 and the #2030Agenda.

The conflict in #Sudan, now in its 2nd month, is a cruel blow for people across the country.
840,000 people are newly displaced. 220,000 others have fled the country.
The desire, willingness and impatience of humanitarian agencies to deliver remains as strong as ever.
Only together, closely coordinated, we are being able to meet more efficiently the needs of the people fleeing #SudanConflict.
🙏 @EG_Red_Crescent led by @ElnazerRamy for leading the response at the border and partnering w @UNEgypt during these challenging times.
@UNICCairo
We are nearing the point of no return, of overshooting the internationally agreed limit of 1.5°C of global warming.
The facts are not in question. Our actions are.
We are at the tip of a tipping point. But it is not too late. https://t.co/SA6dkWVDFG
While only 3 oil companies make over $256bn profit, rich countries are unable to fulfil the $100bn promise. And even the $100bn promise is completely disproportionate to urgency & scale of the climate emergency.

#Minya is our first stop w Minister of @MOICEgypt @RaniaAlMashat during the #EgyptUNWeek in the lead up to the signing of the new Cooperation Framework 2023-2027. Accelerating action for the implementation of the #SDGs at local level is the core of @UNEgypt programmes in #Minya
Thank you @MoMoclimate and @COP27P team for reflecting together on #COP27 outcomes, lessons learnt and way forward in the lead to @COP28_UAE and beyond. We @UNEgypt will continue to be a strategic partner to #Egypt on the climate agenda advocating for #JustTransition for all.
It’s happening every day, worldwide: outrageous and unacceptable. We must speak up and not close our eyes 365 days/year!

Humanitarian emergencies have devastating and different effects on women and girls, particularly when it comes to gender-based violence.
Addressing this violence is a priority in humanitarian settings. Women and girls must be front and centre of humanitarian response.

A fund for loss and damage is essential – but it’s not an answer if the climate crisis washes a small island state off the map – or turns an entire African country to desert.
The world still needs a giant leap on climate ambition.
Germany stressed that the current financial architecture is not fit for purpose and that #ClimateJustice is not charity but about paying for #LossAndDamage to people who did not contribute to the climate crises.
While Germany announced €6bn/year, trillions are needed.

“We are on a highway to climate hell with our foot still on the accelerator.”
At #COP27 climate conference in Egypt, @antonioguterres calls for urgent #ClimateAction. https://t.co/p1DeWUpSOt
Tomorrow, @AminaJMohammed will depart to #Cairo on invitation of the Government to attend the #Egypt International Cooperation Forum.
She will also meet with senior government officials involved in the #COP27 process, the UN Country Team, #Youth & Civil Society Organizations.
The UN in #Egypt is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life resulting from a deadly fire at #AbuSifin#Church in #Giza. We extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ families and to the people & government of 🇪🇬 and our best wishes to all the injured for a speedy recovery.
