Been offline for a few days and returned to the saddening news of Jim Lovell’s passing. A hero in many ways, and an inspiration to many, including myself, his passing is an immense loss. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Mr. Lovell for inspiring a generation of dreamers.

Still hard at work on the Luncher program. Challenges presented by this design are going to take a while to work around, but ultimately this design will give us probably(and don’t fact check this) the lowest mass vehicle of this size ever.

Luncher's motor will be made of CFPP, the same material as the fuselage. Will have a carbon fiber layup as well to help structural integrity. And yes, it will have a thermal liner to prevent burn-through or melting.

Biggest challenge to solve will be hot gas escaping the liner and pushing its way between the case and liner, which would melt the case, cause structural failure, and ultimately a very expensive fireworks show.

@josefprusa my core one ground up a bunch of PCCF when it got clogged. the dust is now everywhere. given you have all the data, what is the risk associated here since its not feasible to clean up all the fibers and they become airborne periodically?

SN12 Polycarbonate carbon fiber parts are underway. Should take ~1 week to get all the parts done

Unfortunately, as these parts can only be made on the @prusa Core One, and I only have a single Core One, it will take ~2 weeks to make all the parts. Important to note that this is still better than SN2, which took ~3 months.

Materials coming in today to begin work on Luncher 1 SN12. Now that Luncher is a personal project, SpaceMax is back and budget is out the window (within reason)! SN12 is full carbon fiber, 9.5 feet tall, and weighs only ~2.5kg dry.
