I've actually deeply analyzed road safety data, and found no correlation between the rollout of State-based seat belt laws starting in the early '80s and decreases in traffic fatalities.

The only clear correlation I saw was between economic downturns and fewer traffic fatalities. Fewer people driving in recessions.

Pedestrian fatalities have exploded since the late '00s.

Our safety standards are a failure. All they've done is prevent more people from being born than were saved. Safety seats are birth control.
