Addressing AIPAC's decision to drop candidate endorsements, direct PAC contributions, and earmarked donations, Professor Mohammad Marandi argued that its decision reflects growing opposition to "Israel" in the United States.
Speaking on Al Mayadeen’s The Grand Standoff: Iran and the World, he said the lobbying group’s backing can now carry a political cost, with negative public perceptions potentially outweighing the financial benefits.
Marandi explained, however, that "they're trying to hide the source of money and pass it on to their allies in a different way," so candidates would not be seen as aligned with AIPAC.
He also pointed to the generational shift, arguing that opposition to the Israeli regime, its wars and the genocide in Gaza is particularly strong among younger Americans.
While he said powerful political and financial interests continue to support "Israel", he argued that public attitudes are changing.
"This is really the beginning of the end of the massive support that the Israeli regime would receive from the United States," Marandi said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military and security forces to immediately impose a cordon around al-Khalil and prepare for a complete lockdown of the occupied West Bank, starting today.
The orders follow a shooting operation targeting Israeli soldiers near al-Khalil, where an exchange of fire lasted more than 20 minutes, according to Al Mayadeen's correspondent.
The Israeli occupation forces and settlers have executed numerous attacks against Palestinians in the past months, killing some, stealing from others, all while preventing them from completing the olive harvest, which is key for Palestinians' livelihood.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi revealed that the United States has spent "$11 BILLION in taxpayer money" over the past three years on missile defense for "Israel".
In a post on X, alongside an estimate of US interceptors fired to defend "Israel" between October 2023 and June 2026, #Araghchi showed that Washington has "fired more interceptors defending Israel than Israel has."
The accompanying breakdown estimated that the #US fired 609 interceptors, costing approximately $11 billion, across eight periods, with the largest expenditure recorded during June 2025 and February-May 2026.
"That is not a symbiotic relationship. It is a parasitic one," Araghchi wrote.
