This morning, at the First Brazil-Africa Vice Chancellors Forum in Brasilia, I have signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Makerere University and the Centro Universitario Fas Faculdades Associadas De Ensino (UNIFAE). We have agreed to collaborate on student and staff exchange, joint research and other areas.
The visiting team is currently supporting CTRIAD in strengthening the Community-Based Drowning Surveillance Project, funded by @BloombergDotOrg and implemented in collaboration with @MinofHealthUG and other partners through the national electronic Community Health Information System (e-CHIS).
The project aims to strengthen routine drowning data collection through Village Health Teams (VHTs), generating evidence to inform national prevention efforts and future integration into Uganda’s Health Management Information System (HMIS).
MakSPH Hosts Johns Hopkins Team to Advance Community-Based Drowning Surveillance in Uganda
This afternoon, @Makerere University School of Public Health Dean, Prof. @RhodaWanyenze, together with Dr. @DavidMusoke14, Chair of the Department of Disease Control and Environmental Health, and Dr. @Oporiah, Head of @TRIADUnit, were delighted to host Prof. William Weiss and Dr. James Kumwenda from @JohnsHopkinsSPH.
The engagement highlighted the long-standing collaboration between MakSPH and Johns Hopkins, spanning over three decades in areas including health systems strengthening, public health training, supportive supervision, and research collaboration.
In the buildup of celebrations to mark the Africa Day on 25th May 2026, we, in partnership with @PanAfric_Ug and @Network_AIDO are thrilled to host the Inter-University Symposium on Pan Africanism and Reparatory Justice under the theme Pan African Intellectualism: The Urgency to Defend the Dignity and Future of the African People in the Main Hall.
Officially opening the Symposium on behalf of @ProfNawangwe, Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Henry Alinaitwe described the atmosphere with H.H. Dr. Paul Jones Eganda, the International Network of Royals, African Diaspora and 23 participating universities as a celebration of "global citizenry".

The U.S. is coordinating a comprehensive response to the Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda in collaboration with their Ministries of Health to help contain the spread, protect American citizens, and support affected communities.
The U.S. has mobilized emergency funding, strengthened regional coordination, supported surveillance and laboratory capacity to respond quickly and effectively to the outbreak.
American leadership remains critical in confronting global health threats and advancing global health security.

I interacted with Brenda and Juliet from Stanbic Bank, and Armstrong from ENGO Company on the resumption of the Student Laptop Acquisition Scheme. The Scheme enables students to acquire affordable laptops through a hire-purchase arrangement.

2026-27 Calls are being shared
The @IODeLMak, @DICTS and @MakerereIGDS teams have successfully supported over 1,800 students during a campus-wide Communication Skills examination conducted through the @Makerere elearning environment.
This achievement demonstrates that meaningful and sustainable digital transformation at @Makerere depends on strong collaboration between academic, pedagogical, and technical support units.
@DICTS and @IODeLMak remain critical partners in advancing digital teaching and learning.
Celebrating Davidson Ndyabahika's Contribution to MakSPH
For six years, @dndyaba was the voice behind @Makerere University School Public Health's public face, translating complex research into narratives that reached policymakers, partners, and the public, building the School's visibility across Uganda and beyond, and doing all of it with professionalism, creativity, integrity, and unwavering commitment.
His humility, reliability, and the positive energy he brought to our community have left a mark that will endure well beyond his time here.
MakSPH is better for the six years you gave it, Davidson.
