There’s a lot of renewed talk about a third temple and the sacrifice of a red heifer. But when Jesus was on the cross and said, “It is finished,” He wasn’t being poetic—He was declaring that the sacrificial system had reached its end. He Himself was the final blood sacrifice.
Yet the religious leaders continued offering animal sacrifices for another 40 years, right up until 70 AD, when God sent the Romans—on Passover, no less—to destroy the temple and bring that entire system to a close.
The modern idea of a future earthly temple really took off with John Nelson Darby, the father of dispensationalism. That’s where the teaching originated. In the early 90s, the church I attended was presenting this theory as an unquestionable fact. I remember saying one Wednesday night, almost casually, “I don’t think there will ever be another earthly temple or red heifer sacrifice. Christ is our eternal High Priest, and He’s in heaven at the right hand of the Father. Maybe we’re not understanding these verses correctly.”
Let’s just say the reaction was… less than warm.
Honestly, if they attempt an animal sacrifice today, I believe something terrible could happen in Jerusalem. God has given Israel—and even the United States—tremendous victories, yet so few give Him the glory. Instead, we boast about our weapons and our military strength. After what Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday, I’m starting to have concerns about how this war may unfold.
Don’t misunderstand me—I will always support Israel. But we must give the praise and glory to God, not to our own might.

Today, Saturday, March 21st, 2026 is the 3rd day of Nison, about 1406 years BC,

Joshua was preparing to cross the Jordan River on the 10th of Nisan. His officers moved through the camp, instructing the Israelites to follow the Ark of the Covenant and prepare for the crossing. Joshua then commanded the people to consecrate themselves in anticipation of the miracles God would perform in the following days.

On this same day, the 3rd day of Nisan 30ad Jesus was walking from Perea to Jerusalem, needing to make the journey in time to enter Jerusalem on the back of a donkey on the 10th of Nisan. It typically took 4 to 7 days to make the 90-mile trip.

The original diet for man and animals was meat-free; all the living creatures ate vegetables and fruits, and the consumption of meat was only given to them, man and animals, after man broke God's commandment. And this was to show that one day there would be an innocent man who would come and die for all mankind. And Jesus is said to have been that "last" sacrifice, would not common sense tell us that killing animals for food would be something that was fulfilled and should be abolished?
James, the brother of Jesus, thought so, and most, but not all, of the early Christians thought so, until Constantine the Great and the Council of Nicaea in 326ad put a stop to the practice. Look it up!
