A reporter in Oklahoma, home to the second largest concentration of Indigenous people in the nation, should know better than to jokingly say “Colonization’s never great, but they did bring French bread.”
Insulting two groups at once. Do better.
🚨🚨🚨OUTRAGEOUS! An Oklahoma Woman with with a non-viable pregnancy says the hospital told her to sit in the parking lot “until you bleed out.”
Jaci Statton, 25, was sick and bleeding from her partial molar pregnancy but the Oklahoma abortion ban prevented doctors from performing any procedure to help her remove the life threatening tissue.
"Oklahoma has three abortion bans in effect, and each of them has different language in describing the medical exceptions," says Rabia Muqaddam, senior staff attorney at the Center for Reproductive Rights. "It's resulted in extreme confusion about what constitutes a sufficient health condition for a doctor to provide a medically necessary abortion."
"A team of doctors and specialists came in and told us, 'There's nothing that we can do according to Oklahoma law. We can't even really touch you,'" Jaci recalls.
Jaci’s story is like potentially thousands like her. Women’s freedom isn’t just about choices, it’s literally about life and death.
If you are or have a wife, daughter, mother, or friend, we need to think about women’s freedom on a personal level. Their lives could be next.
The magnitude of what could have happened yesterday didn’t quite hit me until I saw our surveillance video. It’s chilling to watch. The bullistic glass held up, preventing it from shattering. A lot of us here still processing what happened. Glad no one was hurt @FOX13Memphis 💛
So, @news9 sent Caryn “Sassy Momma” Ross to Rivière Modern Bánh Mì to celebrate “Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.” What could go wrong with that?
POSSIBLE POLITICAL RETALIATION using your tax dollars.
“Council is coming after your balances and will take them.”
Wednesday at 9pm- what we learned from an Open Records request- the alleged threats and potential efforts to drain funding from an Edmond city department. @OKCFOX
An Edmond councilman called my previous reporting “clickbait” and questioned our motives as we uncovered alleged threats to city staff from a vendor with close ties to council. So…we kept digging. And found what happened next. But first-some background ⬇️

Rahmon Lawrence Macon Jr. of Tulsa will receive a 40-year prison sentence after he pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to second-degree murder in Indian Country if his guilty agreement is accepted. https://t.co/ExuQhmxZTu
Hearing news of the Tulsa World layoffs today is so enraging. I truly do not understand the end game of destroying your own business and further weakening an industry that is so important and on life support as it is. Looking at you @LeeEntNews 👀👎🏽 #SaveLocalNews
I was laid off today — during a mandatory furlough — and I’m absolutely heartbroken. I spent 15 years at the World and took so much pride in my work, especially while covering Tulsa for most of the past decade. Thank you to those who followed along ♥️
Transgender Montana lawmaker Zooey Zephyr was again prevented from taking part in debate over a measure banning gender-affirming care for minors as her supporters brought the House session to a halt — chanting “Let her speak!” from the gallery. https://t.co/J6SGW8BJZy
I think there might be fewer than 10 news staff at the Tulsa World now. The Oklahoman staff now operates in a small section of the building they once owned. Every year you think, man, I hope this is it, there's no one else to lose and every year 10+ people go. Just gutting
It's awful to see what's happening to journalism in Oklahoma. It's a massive loss on a human level but also a community level. It's hard for me to know how to talk about it because on some level we're competitors and I don't want to seem disingenuous but it just fucking sucks
