I ran the full quant ladder for Qwen3.8 27B on my 4x3090 rig: 12 formats from FP8 down to 2 bit, 720 real tasks each, no token caps.

235 hours of pure model time. 30.9M tokens generated across 19,925 calls. My cards did nothing else for 10 days.

Full honest results and raw traces are in this thread, and the bottom of the ladder did something I did not expect.

The EU age verification app is presented as “completely anonymous”. But the risk is that member states (the countries are supposed to create their own versions of the open-source EU app) use it to introduce identity verification that makes it impossible to post anonymously on social media.

The idea behind “completely anonymous” is to use Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP) cryptography to break the link between the age credential issuer (EU governments) and the regulated services/sites. Currently, the EU app does not have ZKP functionality, contrasting Ursula von der Leyen’s claim that the app ”is technically ready to be used”. But more importantly, the app is designed to always function without ZKP technology; if ZKP is unavailable, the app falls back to a non-ZKP model. Even if fully developed ZKP technology could be implemented in the future, it would remain an optional extra feature that countries may choose to disable and that the EU could remove at any time.

This means that the EU could decide at any time that ZKP may no longer be used, and in one stroke the app would fall back to its default mode, meaning that every post on social media carries an ID tag. By that point, an infrastructure will already have been rolled out; people will have gotten used to it, and it will be harder to roll it back.

🇪🇺 EUROPE'S ENERGY SITUATION IS MORE COMPLICATED THAN IT LOOKS

On paper, Europe seems insulated. EU law mandates 90+ days of emergency oil reserves. Middle Eastern crude is only ~8% of imports. Pakistan has 3 days. Europe has months.

But that's the oil story. The gas story is different.

Europe gets 12–14% of its LNG from Qatar, through the Strait of Hormuz. That supply is gone. And it hit at the worst possible moment.

Europe entered this crisis with gas storage at just 30% capacity after an unusually harsh winter. Dutch gas prices nearly doubled. The EU's energy import bill jumped €13 billion overnight. The ECB shelved its planned rate cuts. UK inflation is heading above 5%.

Europe won't run out of oil. But it's being squeezed on gas, inflation, and industrial costs simultaneously, heading into a summer that was already supposed to be the recovery.

Under the proposed measures for DMA Article 6(11), Google would be ordered to ship the daily search behaviour of hundreds of millions of Europeans to multiple third parties through a daily API feed. Any approved "online search engine," AI chatbots included, would get five years of access.

The things people only ever type when they think no one is watching. All of it now scheduled to flow daily into an open-ended list of third parties scattered across the European Union.

Brussels promises "anonymisation." The reality is a thin technical veneer that has been broken in academic literature again and again for over a decade. Search behaviour is a fingerprint. Stripping a name does not change that.

Mass data leaks become inevitable. Every new beneficiary is a new attack surface, and every annual audit is a year of silent exposure between checks. The 2025 Discord vendor breach already showed how fast 70,000 government IDs can leak through a single weak link. Now imagine that link holding Europe's search history.

Surveillance without consent becomes the default. Hundreds of millions of EU citizens never agreed to have their queries packaged and shipped to companies they have never heard of. The legal fiction of "anonymisation" cannot manufacture consent that was never given.

Behavioural search data is a goldmine for phishing, blackmail, social engineering, and corporate espionage.

Foreign intelligence services get a back door without effort. They do not need to breach Google. They only need to compromise the weakest name on the beneficiary list. One insolvent startup. One compromised contractor. One approved entity quietly acquired by a hostile state.

In the name of "competition," the EU is about to manufacture a permanent, distributed, daily-refreshed copy of Europe's collective search history. A surveillance dataset Brussels itself would never approve if any other government tried to build it.

The public consultation closes Friday, May 1, 2026 at 23:59 CEST. The final binding decision lands July 27, 2026.

After that, the door does not close again.

Speaking as PHA Linux's lead maintainer...

PHA Linux will NEVER implement Age Verification. In fact, I will personally rip out any of it that shows in my upstream sources, making for a fork of the code.

- It's insane to insist on an Embedded Systems OS/Distribution to do, "age verification".

- It's a violation of the First Amendment for a US Interest of ANY kind to insist that a project of this nature to make me do this or be fined.

- It's a violation of the Fourth Amendment to any users of my OS to insist on this.

- It's a violation of the Fifth Amendment's Due Process clause and the Fourteenth Amendment to fine me for something that is a law across State Lines.

- I am not a citizen of Brazil. I do not exist in any manner in their country. They can't legally take the position they have on this matter against me.

I will not block, at this time, use within Brazil, California, Colorado, or any other State or nation stupid enough to implement this stuff. It is counter to the spirit and intent of FOSS to restrict this way. I will, however, as needed revise this to the extent the licensing will allow me to do this.
