New York Citys final elephant could soon relocate to a expansive wildlife sanctuary in Tennessee.

The Bronx Zoo is evaluating the transfer of Patty a 57 year old Asian elephant and its sole remaining elephant to a 3000 acre or 1214 hectare sanctuary in Tennessee. This consideration follows the passing of another elephant named Happy earlier this year.

The choice hinges on a central dilemma. Should an elderly elephant remain in the familiar surroundings she has known throughout her life or undertake a lengthy relocation to potentially join a social group of her own kind.

Elephants rank among the most sociable creatures on the planet. In natural habitats females typically form tight family units guided by a matriarch. These enduring connections support collective efforts in nurturing offspring locating resources and ensuring protection.

Guidelines from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums advise against housing female elephants in isolation when feasible. They emphasize that meaningful social engagement plays a vital role in promoting psychological and physical health.

Patty has resided at the Bronx Zoo for many years under the consistent care of dedicated keepers and veterinary staff. Relocating her would involve moving an older animal a considerable distance from her established human caregivers. Zoo representatives also highlight uncertainties regarding her ability to adapt and bond with resident elephants at the sanctuary.

Conversely the sanctuary provides expansive roaming space and companionship opportunities that the zoo can no longer offer.

The Bronx Zoo has formally declared it will not bring in any additional elephants effectively concluding over a century of elephant husbandry at the facility.

This situation builds upon prior discussions surrounding Happy Pattys longtime companion. Happys high profile legal case advanced contemporary animal rights advocacy. She also gained scientific recognition as the first elephant demonstrated to possess self awareness through mirror recognition.

Zoo leaders confirm that no definitive decision has been reached. However one outcome remains clear. Patty will represent the final elephant to reside at the Bronx Zoo.

🚨BREAKING: A train conductor in Chattanooga, Tennessee, was fired after making patriotic comments on July 4th.

On behalf of the largest police news outlet in the world, we're officially calling for the resignation or termination of this officer IMMEDIATELY.

A female Fort Worth police officer was caught on camera threatening to ticket a retired federal law enforcement officer and Christian street preacher for “offensive speech.”

The officer told the man that if someone is offended by his preaching, then “we have a problem” and said she would issue him a ticket. When he asked if she was really going to ticket him for offensive speech, she replied, “Yes, I am.”

This is a blatant violation of the First Amendment. Police officers do not have the authority to ticket people for speech that offends others. That is the exact opposite of how freedom of speech works in America.

The fact that this officer targeted a retired federal law enforcement officer who was simply preaching makes this even more unacceptable.

Departments that employ officers who openly disregard the Constitution need to clean house. This kind of behavior erodes public trust and makes every good officer’s job harder.
