The newly appointed OACPS Assistant Secretary-General for Policies and Programmes, Ms. Susan Branker-Greene, opened the OACPS SIDS Forum, alongside H.E. Mr Barry Faure, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Seychelles, and H.E. Mr Praxedes Rabat Makambo, Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Health and Social Well-being of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, in the lead-up to the 11th OACPS Heads of State and Government Summit.

Discussions highlighted the urgent realities facing Small Island Developing States, including the need to strengthen resilience to climate vulnerability and improve access to climate finance, while reaffirming the central role of OACPS Members in advancing climate justice and sustainable development.

The Forum reinforces the collective voice of OACPS SIDS as key actors in shaping global climate action ahead of the Malabo Summit (27–29 March 2026 🇬🇶). 🌍

The day the Affordable Care Act passed was one of my proudest moments as president, because it meant that millions of Americans would have access to health care, some for the first time.

The ACA also prevented insurance companies from denying people with pre-existing conditions coverage, allowed young people under the age of 26 to remain on their parents’ plan, expanded Medicaid, and so much more.

But the ACA was always meant to be a first step. We still have to do more to expand access and make health care more affordable for everyone.

Les deux personnalités ont échangé sur les opportunités d’engagement parlementaire dans le cadre de l’OEACP, notamment en lien avec la prochaine réunion du Groupe parlementaire régional africain de l’OEACP ainsi que la 1ʳᵉ Assemblée parlementaire conjointe Afrique–Union européenne prévue du 7 au 14 mai 2026 à Abidjan, en Côte d’Ivoire.

H.E. Musa Jobarteh, Ambassador of the Republic of The Gambia chaired his first meeting in his capacity as Chair of the OACPS Committee of Ambassadors.

Several important agenda items were examined during the session, including:
– the report of the Working Group on the 11th Summit of Heads of State and Government;
– the note on the Caribbean–European Union Parliamentary Assembly;
– and the report of the Audit and Budget Committee.
