First Sergeant Thomas Rice (U.S. Army, Ret.) dedicated nearly three decades to serving our nation, and a lifetime to serving fellow veterans. From escorting hundreds of WWII heroes to their memorial in Washington to helping build the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast, his impact continues far beyond his uniform.
A true leader in service, community, and commitment, thank Sergeant Rice for your service.

Captain Chuck Klusmann served our nation with courage and distinction for nearly three decades as a Naval Aviator. During the Vietnam War, he was shot down over Laos, held as a POW, and made the extraordinary escape back to friendly forces after more than 80 days in captivity.
His bravery, resilience, and lifelong service embody the very best of America. We honor his legacy. Rest in peace Capt. Klussman, your heroism is remembered. 🇺🇸

Col. George ‘Bud’ Day a three-war veteran and the first commander of the legendary Misty Forward Air Controllers, remains one of the most decorated Airmen in U.S. Air Force history.
Shot down over North Vietnam in 1967, he suffered severe injuries yet still managed to escape enemy captivity. For his extraordinary heroism and unwavering courage, he was awarded both the Medal of Honor and the Air Force Cross
Col. Day endured 67 months as a POW before his release in 1973.

Yesterday, my staff attended the welcome home celebration for hometown hero and Army veteran Hunter Girdner, organized by @michellesalzman.
While serving in support of Operation Epic Fury alongside the U.S. Army, Hunter was critically wounded after bravely running back into danger to rescue a teammate who had been left behind. His courage and selflessness in that moment reflect the very best of the American spirit.
After undergoing multiple surgeries at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Hunter has finally returned home to Northwest Florida, where his community was proud to welcome him back.
Welcome home, Hunter. Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your bravery. 🇺🇸
Today, my staff welcomed the Swedish naval training vessel HMS Gladan to @NASPCOLA during its port visit. The 40-meter topsail schooner plays a vital role in training Sweden’s future naval officers. Joined by Captain Newman and local leaders, it was a great opportunity to learn more about its mission. 🇺🇸⚓️
A long overdue moment of recognition for First Sergeant Tom Rice, who finally had the opportunity to walk across the stage at the @nwfstatecollege commencement ceremony. After a lifetime of service to our nation and the State of Florida, Sergeant Rice embodies true patriotism and dedication to something greater than himself. Congratulations Sergeant Rice!

Michelle Caldwell is a tireless advocate for our nation’s veterans. From representing veterans in Washington, D.C. with Concerned Veterans for America to helping them start businesses through the U.S. Small Business Administration, her impact is far-reaching.
She founded the Center for Military Service Excellence, Stripes to Stars, and the Women Veterans Monument in Pensacola while working with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to improve mental health care and reduce veteran incarceration.
