My letter in @WinnipegNews! CGMs and insulin pumps save health care costs now and into the future for Type 1 Diabetics. It also means my 6 year old can do anything that any other 6 year old can do - the time to fund all ages is now! @WabKinew@JamesTeitsma @AudreyGordonMB
We will be forming a working group to get ready for election 2023 in MB - we want parties to commit to all ages CGM and Pump coverage - dm us or comment if you would like to join us! #MBdiabetescoveragenow
We have heard from 18-25 year olds that the Budget 2021 promise of insulin pumps expansion has not yet been implemented 1 year later.@AudreyGordonMB @HStefansonMB@WabKinew@UAsagwara @DougaldLamont
As just reported by @VassyKapelos the leadership of the Liberals and the NDP have reached a tentative agreement that would see the NDP support the Liberal govt and keep it in power until 2025 in exchange for movement on key NDP priorities, CBC News has learned.
Ontario continues to lead the way in supporting people living with diabetes. The provinces has the broadest coverage of advanced glucose monitors - covering more patient types in more age categories than other provinces.
This is another great step!

CGM cost in MB 4-9% of yearly income for this life saving technology.Currently Pharmacare for under 25. Why does this life saving and health care cost saving device have an age cutoff? Do we say only young folks can have other life saving treatment? @HStefansonMB @AudreyGordonMB
So happy for these important drugs to be covered - now why is there a 25 year old age limit for Continuous Glucose Monitors - lifesaving device for Type 1 Diabetics #MBdiabetescoveragenow@UAsagwara@WabKinew@HStefansonMB @ShellyforLeader @DougaldLamont
I just learned that the new pharmacare CGM program for kids requires the family and specialist to fill out forms and apply EVERY YEAR. This program is for Type 1 diabetics only. A chronic condition with NO CURE.
Managing a child’s diabetes is tough. Why purposely make it harder?
@AudreyGordonMB @ManitobaPremier @SGuillemardMLA @JDRF 10% of Type 1 kids are hospitalized each year for severe highs and lows (not newly diagnosed)CGM access can help keep them out of the hospital - but many still cannot access it with high deductibles.
@DougaldLamont It needs to be all ages - but also free on the front end. Many people cannot afford to pay their Pharmacare deductible and will still go without a CGM. Also in MB you can’t get a free pump without good glucose control - so people are stuck and don’t have the tools to manage.
@AudreyGordonMB @ManitobaPremier @SGuillemardMLA @JDRF Third - diabetes is life long - if we want to see the best health and economic outcomes we need CGM and pump coverage for all ages.
