My daughters and I were out camping this Memorial Day week and we found four turtles at the state park that needed rescuing. They were frequently crossing the road, and so we stopped to bring them to the lake or the woods.

Of course, after we rescued them, my oldest asked, “Daddy, can we keep one as a pet?”

I smiled but gently explained to her that we need to do what is in the best interests of the turtles, and that meant placing planted turtles in the lake and box turtles in the forest. They needed that environment to survive, and if we took them away, they would not be happy.

“But daddy, we’d LOVE them!”

Of course we would, but part of loving them is wanting what’s best for their lives. Wild animals won’t enjoy captivity, so if we truly love them, we will honor the fact that they need the best environment to survive.

It hit me as I was driving that God has these moments with us as adults, too!

How often do we ask God for something we want but don’t need?

God, if I just could get that boat, I could catch so many bass and feed the family.

God, if you would give me more money, I could better serve you!

God if you just got me a significant other…

Many times we are the second graders begging for a turtle, while God is the loving father who knows us better than we know ourselves, who sees the bigger picture of what’s best, and who knows what we truly NEED, but not want.

My husband did all my farm chores , made me an organic fruit and sweet cream cake (he doesn’t cook or bake and he did great!) , let me get a puppy, and did my steak 4 seconds outside of raw the way I like it for my birthday today.

He knows the way to my heart.

Marry someone who loves Jesus more than he loves you and he will love you like Christ loves his church.

Live look at what our marriage is like👇🏻He’s mellow, I’m not…to say the least.
God joined us for that reason and more (he was patient while I learned to submit!)
I’m thankful 💜
