Has worshipping and serving God become this much of a burden that we now need machines to do it for us? The perceptions of God is no longer Him as a loving Father who desires a relationship with us, but a distant being who is hungry for praise, service, and spiritual labour by any means it comes.
But then, if He was such a God, why would He create humanity with free will? Why would He make beings capable of choice, love, and relationship instead when He could simply have obedient machines that do His bidding?
Once connection is lost, even in our other relationships, anything that is meant to be the substance of intimacy like Worship, penance in this case, ends up becoming some sort of performance or a task to be checked off our lists.
