A great leader must have the courage to ignore the public at times, especially when the public is under the manipulation of known economic saboteurs and bitter election losers! For instance... Azimio went to the streets to force Ruto to return the Unga subsidy. Then Unga was retailing at more than 200/- But President Ruto ignored their demands and focused on subsidizing production and laying down strong foundations for our economy! Today.. Unga is retailing at 100/- down from 240/- during the handsek! Things like cooking gas, cooking oil and others are considerably cheaper than during the handsek regime. Had Ruto succumbed to the violence, the threats to overthrow him and even suicidal members of the public who had promised to literally drag him out of state house... Unga would be 300/- and the same people would be skinning Daktari alive for failing to cushion them. It's the same thing today! Ruto is saying, for instance, that we must protect the local industries against unnecessary imports! Importing things we have the capacity to produce is literally killing the local manufacturers! So, he's imposing tax on imported finished products...not banning them but making sure that local products will be cheaper and competitive. Logical? No! Not according to the so called Gen Z. Just as Azimio were on the streets to demand Unga subsidies, the young people are on the streets threatening to send Ruto to sayun and assigning him some of the most dehumanizing monikers. They are demanding that Ruto protects imported products. They care less about the local industries! Well, Ruto...as usual, is ready to be unpopular and stomach the name calling...as long as he's defending local industries. He knows that thriving local industries will translate into millions of jobs for the same people insulting him and his family today! Just like a parent may choose to disappoint their kids now to secure them a better future! And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what sets apart a real leader from a pool of populists!
