“Big daddy Jim Allister”, “Reverend Gaston” and Jamie Bryson, Daniel McCrossan had a few home truths for the DUP at Stormont yesterday.
But beyond the exchanges, Daniel’s message was clear: It’s time to move beyond division and focus on issues affecting people’s everyday lives.
Steve Harness: “You and I know that the sky is blue and that Trump is an absolute moron, but what does AI say about his intelligence and mental health? Meta AI says Trump does not come across as being well. The platform characterized the posts as a non-stop loop of grievances and self-promotion. When It’s about him it’s the greatest, most beautiful, number one ever. When it’s about anyone else, it’s rigged, fake, corrupt, witch-hunt, total black and white thinking”
So much for "freedom of speech."
The hypocrisy of @OxfordUnion a debating society, censoring a speech by a guest THEY invited.
I guess when you don't like the truth, you disregard it...
#israel
This guy utterly dismantles the populist politics of Reform and Restore in 90 seconds. It’s actually quite beautiful.
Take decades of deep-rooted problems in Britain and convince people that a relatively tiny proportion of the population is responsible for all of them. Housing, the NHS, crime. Blame illegal migrants for everything.
Suddenly, you don’t need credible solutions to the housing crisis, NHS waiting lists or crime. You just need increasingly extreme policies on immigration.
And by the time people realise you never had meaningful answers to the vast majority of Britain’s problems, you’re already in power, handing out tax cuts to your donors.
Israel has no right to exist. That’s the position in international law. It has nothing to do with hatred of Israel or antisemitism.
In fact, no state – none – has a “right” to exist, including states busy extolling their democratic credentials.
If the UK had a “right” to exist, for example, it would mean that Scotland could not be allowed to vote for independence. Why? Because such a vote would break up the UK. It would be a violation of the UK’s supposed “right” to exist as the UK.
Which is precisely why the UK has no “right” to exist.
Peoples have a right to exist. When that right is abused, it invariably involves very serious violations of international law – often through crimes such as apartheid, ethnic cleansing or genocide.
States, by contrast, don’t have a “right” to exist. They simply do exist as a matter of fact – until they suddenly don’t. Like apartheid South Africa. Like Rhodesia. Like Czechoslovakia. Like Yugoslavia. Like Nazi Germany.
This is so obvious it should not even need stating.
Were states to have a “right” to exist, completely arbitrary factors such as their borders, demographic make-up and political institutions would be sacrosanct. Inviolable. It would be impossible for minorities to secede, for territories to be transferred, for apartheid structures to be overturned . Any such change would be a transgression of the state’s “right to exist” as it is.
And yet every single journalist employed by an establishment media outlet is suddenly playing dumb on this most elementary of issues. They’ve all suddenly had a collective lobotomy. They insist Israel must be the exception to the rule that no state has a “right” to exist.
Watch, for example, the BBC’s Nick Robinson berating Green party leader Zack Polanski for refusing to affirm Israel’s “right to exist”. Polanksi correctly argues instead that Israelis and Palestinians have a right to live in equality.
Why all this incendiary stupidity from our supposedly brightest and best journalists?
Find the answer in my latest article No state has a ‘right’ to exist – least of all an apartheid, genocidal state like Israel. A link to the full article is in the reply post ⬇️
I love she's Indian origin
I love how she's pissed off Trump and all those men hyperventilating right now.
A woman.
A woman of color.
Who is fighting against apartheid!
Who is fighting for international law!
Who called out Genocide.
And as a result of her Nobel prize, the Trump regime is going to sanction the International Criminal Court.
It's all just too good.
THIS SPEECH WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY…
Any country that sides with the US will forever lose its credibility to speak on human rights and international law.
This is the best news of the week! Navi Pillay, a former ICC judge and chair of the UN commission that concluded Israel committed a genocide in Gaza, won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday "for her efforts to promote peace and international law”. Thank you for your leadership!
@David__Osland It’s most likely they found compromising evidence relating to Andrew surrendering our national security interests to Epstein. This is the only way to spare him & royal family. Is it conceivable police would have failed in such a basic warrant issue?
"The commission finds it is a genocide"
– Navi Pillay, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, the former head of the UN Commission of inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territory.
If a single person messes with the elections, they are going to be exposed and dragged out onto the street to be tar and feathered by the public and they will ruin their lives forever. We’re not fucking around.
Anyone idiot enough to vote for the Tories after 14 years of utter shithousery should remember a lot of today's issues roll back to this woman.
86% of those in receipt of universal credit are IN WORK.
All the Tories care about is the rich and lining their own pockets.
The Great British Rip Off.
We pay more for everything and what we get back is falling apart.
Food is nearly 40% more expensive than five years ago and on track to be around 50% higher than mid-2021 by the end of this year.
Olive oil has more than doubled. Beef, eggs, pasta and chocolate are all up by half or more.
Diesel has just hit a record £2 a litre. Petrol is around 174p. A typical energy bill is £1,723 under the October price cap - 58% higher than winter 2021/22.
£billions spent on importing oil and gas from Norway and the North Sea, while the government turns off the taps on new UK oil and gas licenses from the same sea.
Gas rates are roughly 140% above mid-2021.
One of the highest electricity rates in the world.
The tax burden is at the highest since records began in the late 1940s and still forecast to climb even further.
Employer National Insurance went up. Business rates land on the local independent shop. Retailers now hand over about 72p in business taxes for every £1 of pre-tax profit.
Walk the high street and you can see where that money did not go. One in seven high street properties is empty. Hollowed out streets where proud local businesses used to stand bringing communities together.
Over 70,000 UK shop closures since 2020. Retail jobs fell by 122,000 in two years.
The UK hospitality sector has suffered a net loss of more than 16,000 licensed venues (including pubs, bars, clubs, and restaurants) since the start of the Covid in March 2020.
A record 6,365 UK agriculture, forestry and fishing businesses closed in 2025 alone.
Familiar names keep shrinking or vanishing - boarded windows, “to let” signs a vape shop where the butcher or the bank used to be. The places that held a town together are being taxed and costed out of existence while you are told the economy is being “supported.”
The roads tell the same story. Councils in England and Wales face a record £18.6 billion backlog of carriageway repairs - twelve years of work. Only about half the local network is in good structural condition. More than 32,500 miles have less than five years of life left. Roads are resurfaced, on average, once every 97 years. 1 million potholes. Road drains left without regular cleaning.
We pay record fuel prices to drive on roads that wreck tyres and suspension.
Water is no better. Pipes leak, rivers take the sewage bills still rise. No major new reservoirs were built in England for over 30 years. Dozens sold off. And we end up getting told that we have a hosepipe ban when there’s a few days sunshine in July.
Schools, hospitals and rail carry the same pattern: maintenance deferred, promises announced, yet more decay.
But meanwhile data centres, solar panels and wind turbines are being plastered across prime farmland reducing our food supply, natural habitats and resources.
And the people in charge? An MP’s basic salary is £98,599 - up 5% this year, more than 20% since the £81,932 they were on in 2021. Ministers take a second salary and huge expenses on top. Their pay is increased while our taxes continue rise - which helps to fund them to manage our decline.
What is overdue is a massive, sustained cost-of-living protest - visible, peaceful, organised, impossible to shrug off by the government - until tax rises, food, fuel and energy prices and sense general decay stop crushing ordinary households and until the country we pay more and more for stops being left to rot by local and national governments.
