Given the controversy around carding/street checks, it would be interesting to see a study that examines if carding has assisted in investigations and if they are as effective a tool as some people say they are. I know I have definitely benefited from them #CANSEBPContest
@ChrisLewisLLS@pberry62 I’ve also heard, anecdotally, that the criminal element is aware of police disengagement which is making them more willing to carry guns or deal drugs without fear of arrest. That’s another perspective on this matter that I’d like to see more of.
Is there a de-policing “Ferguson Effect” in Canada that is dissuading officers from proactive policing and community engagement and if so, is there a correlation with this and recent increases in the crime severity index and gun violence? #CANSEBPcontest
@ChrisLewisLLS@pberry62 I’m thinking yes. Just from what I see at work and articles I’ve read about the US experience, there seems to be a lot of reluctance to be proactive. I read the article about the former Ottawa cop, but can’t find his study online. I’m itching to have a read of that.
