Tester: once enfant terrible; not yet Methuselah or a dinosaur. Still: testing, thinking, questioning all but my hairline, test & i changed.views my own.
@ajcdeane@tfa4freedom Very sad news for those on any side of politics who valued integrity, intelligence and honesty in debate. I never held Simon’s political views but I had much respect for him, he will be sorely missed. Condolences to his close friends and family.
@villabone@villabone I think we swapped luck over the weekend, here’s hoping the having a stinker for a claret and blue club moves to Burnley post the international break for both our club’s sake!
@villabone I don’t agree that judges and the judiciary are repugnant for following sentencing guidelines that may not be appropriate for physical violence or incitement. It is for Parliament to change the law and guidelines not for judges to make calls outside the current legal definition.
@MRAJPalmer@villabone 2/2 though the MP has served time both on remand & under sentence whilst his appeal was arranged and heard. Also there is a valid argument that sentencing guidelines on personal violence are low as well as post the various attacks on MP’s if this should be a different legal case
@MRAJPalmer@villabone Under current sentencing guidelines for a first offence in an English court and where factors of other actions for rehabilitation and time served on remand if not deemed motivated by a hate crime under protected characteristics then, yes potentially on appeal 1/2
@real_shirelass Not every single person is having an election postponed as they are not all being impacted by the dissolution of some tiers of local government to become unitary authorities like some did in 2021…did you advocate bankruptcy for all local authorities then by non payment?
@RupertLowe10 2/2 committed criminals tend to be persistent but often caught hence committed, which would suggest they are not that good at it. Diversity is inclusive and allows for enabling the poor, working class, disabled, women and all academically gifted equal chance of access…
@RupertLowe10 Surely competence should be a given for universities: academic excellence would be a higher goal, character is shown by accepting not all are equal or the same but should be given equitable opportunities, commitment is not always a positive statement of good 1/2
@KEdge23 They remain MP’s but not Labour as quickly suspended from the party. No MP would or can be deseated by any party under either condition stated above unless it leads to a parliamentary suspension that met a recall petitions’ criteria and enough constituent’s sought a by election.
@Joffrey61964585@canadiancarol1@sophielouisecc Not convinced it’s a waste of time and money to hold a trail to uphold the principles of law and the right to trail. A full trial is more expensive than a sentencing one from a guilty plea & tends to lead to more expensive post sentencing costs to the state if found guilty too.
@villabone I’ve only heard Labour MP’s who are keen to appease Sir Keir call the current incarnation centre left.
I acknowledged the statism, accept there is an inherent & extreme authoritarian central command/control model appearing to be in play. It’s the left bit I’m struggling with.
@ghost_wales It probably is a resignation point on principle; however probably anyone who would say that about a person who does not share their views may not have those principles in the first place so is unlikely to resign their seat.
@CathyMo41926708@GoodwinMJ Yes as an independent MP as suspended from the PLP. De seating an MP is not something an Parliamentary party can just do, that is for constituents under certain specific circumstances post a recall petition
@Joffrey61964585@canadiancarol1@sophielouisecc From the video circulated it does, still does not remove the right to plead not guilty and face trial. That trail maybe quick when it happens with compelling evidence; long established English law has the premise of innocent until proven guilty and a fair trail without prejudice
@ArchRose90 It appears he is trying to sort them as whip removed and suspended from the PLP. I rarely recall multiple Conservative PM’s acting so quickly and decisively for similar transgressions in recent history.
