AVID 9 students touring the Taille de Noyer home, located on McCluer’s campus, as part of our research on the history of enslaved individuals in North St. Louis County. For most of the school year, students look out my classroom window with so many questions about this house, and touring this 200+ year old home provides a lot of answers for them.
During 2nd semester, AP Environmental Science students have a semester-long project that requires them to perform an extensive analysis on the Coldwater Creek Nuclear Waste Incident. This activity had students use GIS mapping data to analyze the urbanization of North St. Louis County in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, then look at urban runoff and the Coldwater Creek floodplains to model how radioactive particles likely traveled from the airport waste site across North County.
AP Environmental Science students learning about ecological tolerance factors by designing fictional organisms and assigning them tolerance ranges that allow them to adapt to their habitat. Then, they learned how to create effective AI prompts to generate images of the organisms they designed.
These are some of the greatest students you could ever ask for as a teacher. Hard-working, loving, dedicated, kind, and all of them with plans to do absolutely incredible things. After having these students for most, if not all, of their high school career, since the first day of freshman year, its like watching my own kids graduate. #2025
