Today is my first day with the Los Angeles Times, where I'll be reporting on the Trump administration and its battles with California from the Washington bureau. I'm thrilled to join the @latimes team and to serve my home state. Tips welcome: [email protected]
NEW: There was NOT a batch of L.A. mayor votes with zero votes for Pratt.
But there was a "lag in an automated update" to @AP vote tallies that split the batch and updated Bass & Raman's votes about a minute before updating Pratt's.

Sen. Adam Schiff says he doesn't think Republicans "had any choice but to pull the plug until we come back in June" on today's funding vote, "because they’re facing a bit of a mutiny within their conference."

In California's "rollercoaster" of a governor's race, some Democratic voters are waiting to cast their ballots, creating some potential for a slower vote count. Counties say they're prepared for a later influx of ballots:

Honored to be part of the amazing @washingtonpost team named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for our immigration coverage.
Tres venezolanas, dos boricuas, un argentino, una tica and so many more bylines in this package.
My colleague @GavinJQuinton was feet from the shooter last night at the White House correspondents dinner. Myself and four others were in the ballroom. Here's what we saw:

When my colleagues and I arrived at WHCD last night we talked about how easy it seemed like it may be for a hotel guest to infiltrate the party. An hour later, we were under our table hiding. Today's story on the security questions raised by the shooting:

This is an image, unconfirmed, that I believe to be the body of the shooter at the @whca dinner.
Multiple shots were fired at the White House correspondents dinner with president Trump in attendance.
I heard 5-6 shots ring out, shortly before observing a dead body surrounded by a dozen secret service officers.
According to multiple on-scene witnesses, an unknown man dashed toward the dining area and was met with gun fire.
One hotel security guard said she observed the individual with a firearm. Several other witnesses said they were unsure if the individual was in possession of a weapon.

Trump met for 1.5 hours with Mayor Bass and LA County Supervisor Barger about the LA fire recovery at the WH on Wednesday. The president was “very engaged,” Barger told us. Now they’ll press Congress for the funds

My first little ditty for @latimes: Trump asks Congress to fund an Alcatraz prison, but the administration appears to have taken few other steps towards such a project.

I interviewed Julio’s family for The Post before I was laid off. We were the first to report their side of the story that disputed DHS’ claims.
Now there's this development. This is why Spanish-speaking & diligent breaking news reporters matter right now.

The Washington Post just laid off its entire award-winning photo team. They were our eyes in places we'll never see. It's a horrifying loss at a time when lying governments, propaganda and AI slop are on the rise.
