These are not the ramblings of a conspiracy theorist. These are the stated policy preferences of one of the most influential financiers and political donors in modern Western history, expressed openly in a recorded interview to a woman who would go on to help run one of America's closest allies.

This is important context for understanding a worldview that shaped an entire generation of Western political figures. The assumption embedded in Soros's vision — that American economic dominance should be deliberately wound down, that China should be elevated as a co-architect of global financial order, that a managed decline of the dollar was not a threat to be resisted but a goal to be pursued — did not stay in that interview. It became the operating philosophy of institutions, think tanks, foundations, and governments across the Western world for the next fifteen years.

Trump's entire economic doctrine — dollar strength, tariffs, reshoring, energy dominance, pushing back on China's rise — is a direct repudiation of exactly this worldview. That is why the opposition to him from the globalist establishment has been so ferocious and so personal. He is not just a political opponent. He is a fundamental rejection of the project Soros described in 2009.

Freeland went on to lead Canada's response to Trump's tariffs with "Elbows Up." Soros's vision of a managed American decline did not disappear. It just got a hockey metaphor.
