@_63545902@TomCruise Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film adaptation of Romeo & Juliet was word-for-word of Shakespeare's play. It absolutely did not create a "new narrative," and had white, black, Latino, and Asian actors portraying characters that were originally written as Italian.
It's the same thing.
@_63545902@TomCruise So when Romeo and Juliet was adapted into West Side Story, with Italian families turned into NY street gangs, were you equally disgusted by that adaptation?
Or when Baz Luhrmann adapted the story to a modern Venice Beach locale? Boycotted that as well?
@_celia_bedelia_@RinoH8er@TomCruise Why would they need to see it in order to pass judgment on it? Someone told them it was "woke" and that’s all they needed to hear.
@Eleven__11XI I'm sure others have mentioned this, but Romeo & Juliet was reimagined in West Side Story into warring NY street gangs, and I’m not aware of anyone crying foul.
Baz Luhrmann also adapted the story in a modernized California beach setting in 1996, and it was lauded.
@KatMelodeon@ImTomHawks@fwrenzo1 You can't use facts to discuss an issue w/ someone who believes facts that don't support their beliefs are lies. They need someone to blame, & brown people are easier targets for disillusionment than white billionaires.
Facts didn't get them there, so facts can't challenge them.
@JohnCleese What about Christian scholars/politicians saying that Christianity should take over the UK and displace all other religions? Kick them out, too?
